TWO hundred members of Merseyside's Sicilian community will gather in Liverpool this weekend.



The members of the national organisation Sicilia Mondo - Sicily world - have been invited to aday of events in the crypt of the Metropolitan Cathedral on Sunday.

The event, which will include music, food and information about the history of the Italian island, has been organised by Sicilia Mondo and its president Charlie Mancuso.

Mr Mancuso, a "retired young man of 76", wholives in Calderstones, said: "I was born in Sicily but came here when I was 21 as I had ambitions I couldn't fulfil in Sicily.

"I spent 50 years in the ice cream business but I'm retired now and to keep my brain occupied I decided to be active in the social side with the Italian and particularly Sicilian community around the whole of England."
