    Talking Wombles visit Ness Gardens

    Published: 10th June 2009 11:12
Great Uncle Bulgaria, Madame Cholet and Wellington visited Ness Botanic Gardens at the weekend to join in the fun at the Green Garden Festival.

Everyone had lots of fun participating in the many activities which included wildlife demonstrations, making dreamcatchers and vegetable planting as part of Ness's ?Grow Your Own' project. The Wombles were on hand to join the children in creating ?Junk' music; using instruments made from recycled materials.

Kevin Reid, Director of Ness Gardens said "The Wombles are the original recyclers and the event provided a great opportunity to relay their message to a new generation."

THE region?s bats are be under the spotlight tonight as part of a special conservation event.

It is European Bat Weekend ? the 13th such occasion ? and to mark it, the University of Liverpool is leading a guided tour, lecture, and dinner at Ness Botanical Gardens.

Conservation expert Lawrence Armstrong will be hoping to show visitors as many of the seven varieties of the creature resident in Merseyside, while demonstrating their crucial role in the ecosystem.

After an evening meal guests will take a tour of the gardens to track the bats living in the trees.

The event is now fully booked.
