I'm sure The National Trust used to do tours around here to show you this, there's Prehistoric trees and footprints of giant buffalos in this area and must be well worth a visit.

Thanks Kev,it was great looking around the ship,it was great being allowed to walk around Liverpool's dock freely which is something I'll make sure I do again next time another big ship visits. It was the first time I've been the other side of the dock wall and it was a great experience all round.

I once went to the Queens and Kings Docks when they were in full swing with ships and not filled in. Standing on the river side of the docks and looking towards the city was a strange eerie feeling. I could see above the dock sheds the tops of all the buildings I was familiar with since I was born, yet the environment in the docks was superb and totally contrasting to what was on the other side of the Dock wall. I was so near yet so far. I was in a magical place filled with beautiful ships of all colours, great expanses of water with activity all around, yet so near to home, but excluded from this magical place. I can see why the men who worked on the docks and ships found it so compelling.

    Default Williamson Tunnels

The Williamsonson Tunnels were amazing. Such a small part of what will soon become a massive labrynth of underground tunnels beneath Liverpool.

We toured the small part of the tunnels that are open to the public. Its amazing to know that the tunnel system goes far beyond what we know at the moment!

Joseph Williamson was a 19th-century philanthropist, tobacco merchant, property owner and pioneer of tunnels. He was born on 10 March 1769, possibly in Warrington. At the age of 11 he moved to Liverpool seeking employment. His mother Sarah permitted him to move from his home to Liverpool on the condition that he was to lodge with his employer. His employer was Richard Tate of the Tate tobacco and snuff manufacturers.
