    Default Cup Disgrace (CTG)

Another Red Face = Another Cup Disgrace

I've been writing the same for a while. . .
about the FA Cup being defiled,
    the opposition not taken seriously,
another manager acting imperiously. . .

Aye, he said it wouldn't happen again,
but then he did it, aye, once again. . .
a weak side lacking his biggest guns,
    mostly wet behind-the-ear young 'uns.

It was only an FA Cup semi-final,
the most famous club cup competition
in the British Isles, maybe the world. . .
a famed game to be played at Wembley!

Managers, think as you select, may we urge
you so, most humbly? Think of the prestige
of this great and famous football competition!
(The tiddlers all know it even if you do not!!!!!!)

Yes it's happened once again as Sir Alex Ferguson put out a side filled with reserves against Everton in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday, April 19, 2009, and deservedly lost as a result of that gamble.

It's a situation I've written about a number of times before in prior poems. See "Another Cup Disgrace" at http://www.footballpoets.org/p.asp?Id=13731 and "A Cup Disgrace"

Naturally, Sir Alex Ferguson is far from the only top flight manager in the FA Cup to put out a weakened side and then pay the penalty. The competition though deserves a lot better. So do the fans who are paying their hard-earned money to see the matches!

Excellent seniment there Chris. Some arrogant managers forget the pride that their supporters have in their team and the expense that many a working man has forked out to follow their team with respectful honesty.
These managers are so detached from the ordinary working man they don't have any respect for them at all.
