Default Legendary Liverpool Clubs Of Yesteryear.

Right me and Victoria have just went one one for about an hour talking about "The Quadrant Park" so there must be a thread in this subject because everyone has special memories of going clubbing,I suppose a quad thread would isolate most people so if you were a regular at a particular club put some of your memories down here.Whether you were there when "The Bier Keller" was kicking off (like me) and Listening to Groundpig has special memories get involved, were you there in "The State all those years ago? Did you go to "The Cavern" at the time of The Beatles or later on like me in the 80's,were you indeed lucky enough to go to the legendary "Erics"?Put down here the time when you were in your heyday and all those special memories.

I used to go to "The She Club" occasionally,I can't think why? Le Bateux's on Duke Street Isn't it? One of my mates is in a band and he played there and the sordid story he told me about there would make you hair curl and isn't for a forum like this, think swingers.

I always thought "The 051" was a bit shady but I went there loads of times.I reckon everyone's been "The Grafton" at some stage and I still see crowds of people pouring out of there at closing times.

I think The Grafton and The She Club were the only places you could go to and the women would buy your ale.

Early 60's Cavern & Kasbah. Green Door. Locano and Grafton, tho. I'd hardly call them 'clubs.' Not then anyway. When I remember more I'll post them.

i didn't go to the she club at the time but knew bloke who used to dj there
he used to tell of "cabaret "show or something on a certain day of the week which i thought was just a wind up .but perhaps someone who was a regular may elaborate more .
there are a couple of other clubs no one has mentioned at all THE ASPIDISTRA saw davy jones in there(monkee)cant remember exactly where slater st area i think? there was also another 70's80's cluboff bedford st anyone know the name?
after stunbling on this great forum / thread it really brings back memories of 70's liverpool to me .was there a club called black georges?(just found out it was a pub in dingle ?
some of the pics on this thread posted earlier seem to be missing or no longer available is there any chance they ciould be re posted .
anyone have memories of the greek club PLAKA or a picture of the plaka ?
the plaka was above THE FUNG LOY REETAURANT NOW the shangri la in victoria street .someone must remember the staybehinds at the shandri la ?
THE BEACHCOMER / BABALOU have fond memories remember when double duch was in charts they had a skipping compettion believe it or not
i think i'll start collecting any pictures of 60's70's liverpool clubs .

the GLADRAY this was the first club / drinking place i visited poss 1978 .(once upon a time pubs shut in the afternoons )so in town with a mate we decided to or rather"dare" try the gladray as id seen it open when on the 86 bus to town .it was quite full .i was surprised it was just like a bommed out house with a bar, pool table and sixties formica kitchen type tables .
as i rememder a guy at the entrance let us in free . some people before us had paid .it was quite dark inside.at the bar you paid first through a grill for pint it was then passed through by a barmaid with many homemade tattoos on her arms .later on she came round with a pint glass collecting money .this was a collection for her to do a strip to a record or two from their juke box .
as my mate went to the bar to get a round in a rather tough looking girl
just sat at the table and asked if i wanted to some kind of "business" for ?5.
...... i made my excuses and left

They used to be known as 'Pick up joints' ! .. two other places for 'pick ups' where The Montrose and Pickwicks !

I hated them kind of clubs - real naff !

I went to the Cavern early 70s. Also Erics later on - but only when reggae bands were playing ! Wasn't into anything else - only black music.
There were some great live bands and singers on clubs like The Mardi and the Victoriana. (The likes of Ike & Tina Turner, Wilson Picket, Edwin Star, etc)

We used to go to Soul music clubs and Reggae blues dances

... God, this thread makes me feel old !! ... and I am !!

Of course the montrose and pickwicks(which had another slightly different name to young lads) I never actually went to either but I heard enough about them.I'll bet you The Cavern was brilliant no matter what decade you went there,I loved it,and I think Erics only lasted a few years but the impact it had on the local music scene can't be underestimated,i think you were lucky to have been a part of it.

You must have been a fan of our very own black band "the real thing" then?
