    Default Where we sailed from

The following pictures were taken in the mid 1930's and are from an old magazine article about Liverpool being one of the greatest seaports of the world. They show the stretch of docks from the Brunswick looking toward the Salthouse and Pier Head(note the Customs House in the background)
Second we have the new dry dock in the Gladstone ,how clean and orderly things looked then. Finally we have the passenger liner Landing stage with the Pier head serving as a backdrop. Things were not so very different when I was at sea.
    Can anyone name the ships?

    Default Wapping Basin

    Nice photos Brian,

I can just make out Wapping Basin just before Salthouse dock. I spent a lot of time there on the Paris boats, Wm.H.Muller & Co. in the 60's. My ship was the "Somme" and I was on her for two years as AB and Mate. A nice run, Liverpool/Manchester to Rouen/Paris.

Wapping basin was very old fashioned and we used our own derricks to discharge and load. We only had one derrick per hatch so the dockers used the swinging derrick method. (I won't go into that here).

I believe there all yuppie flats there now.

    Alec.

    Default Gladstone Docks

I forgot to mention Brian that I sailed out of Gladstone Dock on Blue Funnel boats from 1952 until 1956 as I think you did yourself.
