Thread: Class 502 EMU holding on by a thread

Default Class 502 EMU holding on by a thread

    .
A former Mersey Railway electric train, almost 70 years old is holding on by a thread. It's a disgrace that a permanent home for it on Merseyside has not been found.

Surely there is space to park it somewhere adjoining the Merseyrail network?

To lessen the risk of further deterioration the surviving coaches need to be moved asap into dry secure covered storage. There appears to be nowhere on or around Merseyside meeting these requirements but I understand it is possible that secure storage space has been identified and if sufficient funds can be raised these coaches will shortly be moved. Unfortunately, this is not on Merseyside.

Does anyone know why this EMU which was restored to LMS livery in the early 80s was allowed to decay into such a state?

I did travel on it in restored conddition once. Obviouslyly much effort was put into restoring it so why was it allowed to get like this?

I can remember as clear as day riding on those trains, I lived in Waterloo so any trip to anywhere from the station was on those units...it seems a real shame that it is just being left there to seemingly rot away, a real shame

    Default An update

A secure albeit temporary storage site for the unit has been found - see http://www.hamptonweb.myby.co.uk/class502/

Please consider joining the "friends" and making a contribution, however small, to its longer term preservation.

Lets hope it can be restored and returned to Merseyside. Such a shame it was left to rot like that. Here's a unit at southport in green livery http://www.flickr.com/photos/3297867...61684/sizes/l/ and one at Aigburth http://davegraham.fotopic.net/p38805286.html
