St Marys infant school, Meadow Lane, West Derby.
Don`t know if this has always been a school as it looks like a church

    Default Meadow Lane

Nice to see that 1906 picture as well - they're certainly standing their
ground! That takes them well over the century and looking good for a few
more years still. The school looks in tidy shape as well.Yet another pleasant
little rural-looking enclave - may it remain so. Stan H.

    Great photos Joe

Lived around there for quite a few years. The school was built in 1859 on land given the the Earl of Sefton, with the building cost being raised by public subscription. It was decided at the outset that the school was to be for the education of the poorer classes and was to be administered by West Derby Parish Church just across the road, so perhaps this accounts for the architectural style. The school was demolished & rebuilt in 1974, apart from the bell tower shown in your photo

I suppose that explains why there's a tree growing out of the steeple. Looks as though the building needs some additional renovation and upkeep.

The scene at West Derby Village today after the shootings last night resulting in 4 people being hospitalised. The pubs were closed and cordoned off as were the Croxteth Country park gates.

    Regarding the shootings...

I was shot as I sat in Sefton Arms

    (by Ben Rossington, Liverpool Echo)

THE ECHO?S deputy business editor was one of the three men injured in the spray when a shotgun was fired into the crowded Sefton Arms.

Tony McDonough, 39, was drinking in the pub on Saturday night when armed bikers targeted the doorway in a ?ride by? shooting.

He felt several small objects pepper his face and dived under the table to take cover as chaos broke out in the pub.

Tony was wounded in the attack just after 11pm on Saturday.
He was discharged from Fazakerley hospital with four pellets still embedded in his face.
Doctors decided it was best to leave them there.

It would have made for a right old scene if they'd have wheelied and come of the bike backwards whilst trying to flee. It'll happen one day and I suspect a bloodbath will occur. They've got one 20 year old anyway.

Am speechless. The way the attack was carried out was just mad. Too many innocent people getting hurt. On my doorstep again....it's happening too often.
Gone are the day's when we where shocked to hear of a shooting.

Anyone from West Derby able to help?

I'm doing www.liverpool-today.info and I've got a couple of pieces of information that I need from West Derby folk!

If you look at my Childwall District page - I need the following:

Two local shopping area's in West Derby, a small review on them like I've done for Childwall and possibly a map to point where they are (multimap)

And if you can recommend any Doctors - pref with a picture and a website.

    Not asking for much ;o)
