Default Old Wash House Wavertree Building [Updated]

    Hi peeps.

We drove past The Wellington in Wavertree today on the way the ma-in-laws and between the Welly and the building on its left is a rather cute [but empty/ derelict] 3 story building which would benefit from a restoration me thinks...

Anyone have info on it or pics?

    Cheers.

There seems to be very little about it...

http://www.wavertree.org.uk/ seems to suggest part of the building may have been used as a wash house, but it looks far too grand for such a simple use.

Here's a pic. It has had a tidy up:

Here's the building next to it.

Eek, turns out i'm wrong. The Old Wash House was behind the little building in a seperate structure.

All I can find is that the Wellington Pub was once attached to the Rose Brewery. Whether the pub included the brewery or if it was in an adjoining building I don't know.

    This from Genuki:

"A John Anderton is shown on the 1846 Tithe Map as the owner of a 'house, beer house and malt kiln'. The Anderton family were the owners of Rose Brewery (on the corner of Picton Road and Wellington Road) and other properties including Anderton Square, Rose Villas (off Prince Alfred Road), and the Rose Vaults pub."

A bit of useless info from Cad but having passed this building for the last 10 years, it used to have a stone wall about 1ft in front of it to sort of shape a garden - or at least boundary it from the pavement. My guess is that it was taken away due to people from the boozer next door going arse over t*t on it.

It was my understanding that this was just a very small house which similar would be the small houses next to Wavertree Town Hall.

    Right, further update...

The 1978 Liverpool Heritage Bureau 'Buildings of Liverpool' which is one of the most comprehensive books when it comes to the cities fabric states that

"283 Picton Road is a small brick cottage set back from the road and sandwiched between a corner public house and Minster Soft Drinks Ltd."

It is simply dated to the 19th Century.

I'm guessing that this is our building, the soft drink company probably used the old structure of Rose's brewery and bottling plant to start their business. Since this was written in the late 70's I imagine some people may be able to remember Minster Soft Drinks, anyone?

If i remember correctly there was a Guinness bottling and distribution building next to the Wellington Pub.The washhouse was next to the Library although set back a bit and Rose Villas were next to the Rose pub on High St.

Yes I think they were there well into the 1980s.
