A 19TH century auction catalogue detailing the sale of some of Liverpool?s most famous addresses goes under the hammer at a city auction house on Thursday.

Cato Crane Auctioneers will sell catalogues detailing Robertson Gladstone?s vast property empire.

It was sold in Liverpool on February 7, 8 and 9, 1876, after his death.

It included dozens of homes on Liverpool?s most prestigious streets and in today?s money would have netted ?15m to ?25m.

The lots included a row of townhouses in Rodney Street and stables, workshops and homes in Dale Street and Hope Street.

Mr Gladstone was the elder brother of four-times Victorian prime minister William Gladstone.

Liverpool?s famous Gladstone family lived in 62, Rodney Street until 1836 when Robertson Gladstone married and built a mansion house in Court Hey Park, Huyton.

John Cato said: ?This is a very interesting lot and it could go for ?50 or ?50,000.?
