Yes, The Empire Bingo Club closed in September 2007, the owner blaming the smoking ban. Originally, the site was to be a car park for the hospital, but ultimate demolition is a certainty, English Heritage refusing to list it.
The photograph was taken with legal access to the building.

Thought id stick this on the end of this thread since its relevant, the grave of the person the Hospital in Garston i believe was named after.

    Sir Alfred Lewis Jones K.C.M.G (1845 - 13 December 1909)

At the age of twelve he was apprenticed to the managers of the African Steamship Company at Liverpool and 14 years later had risen to be manager of the business. by 1891 Messrs. Elder, Dempster & Co., who purchased the business of the old African Steamship Company, offered him a managerial post. Which he accepted, subject to Messrs. Elder, Dempster selling him a number of their shares, over time he eventually took full control of the company. He promoted the eating of bananas in Britain and the ships of the Elder Dempster Line became known as "the banana boats".

Sir Alfred Jones was instrumental in founding the Liverpool school of tropical medicine in 1898, he was a great philanthropist and amongst other things. 3 years later In 1901 he was knighted. K.C.M.G means Knight Commander of St Michael and St George

He died on the 13th of December 1909, leaving large charitable bequests, he never married.

There is a memorial to Sir Alfred Lewis Jones at the Pier Head in front of the Liver Buildings,
    A. H. Milne wrote a biography about him, published January 1914. LCCN: 15008017

Thanks, Georgie. Your photographs represent an important record of another lost Liverpool building which surely could have been put to use if the "authorities" has really tried. Sad.

Tell ya what? The new facade looks like a load of tin foil and certainly caused some problems when the sun is out
