Default Capital of Culture positive press "worth ?200million"

LIVERPOOL?S Capital of Culture year has had an estimated ?200m worth of positive press across the UK and the world, it was revealed last night.

Kris Donaldson, director of Liverpool Culture Company, said the 1,200 articles written globally about last week?s MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) had pushed the amount of positive press the city had received over the ?200m mark.

Mr Donaldson also revealed that following coverage of the EMAs, 10,000 articles had now appeared in the UK?s print media giving positive coverage to Capital of Culture.

He expected Liverpool to continue to benefit from the effects of the positive press for ?at least a couple of decades?.

The Culture Company is currently working with a number of organisations to add up the direct economic impact of the city?s flagship year.

?There?s a lot of work going on as we are trying to get a sense of what the impact of the year is going to be.

?We think that in the UK alone positive press coverage is going to be worth more than ?100m, and international coverage is also approximately ?100m.?

The figure does not include television or radio coverage of which there has also been plenty.

Indeed the BBC Culture Show, which has already done one special programme on Liverpool this year, is now planning a second.

?We are over the moon with the coverage Liverpool has had. Over the past 12 months, there has been some fantastic coverage and wonderful reactions to what is going on here.

?Liverpool has been on the lips of not only people in the UK but also across Europe.? next ?

It's hard to moan about that.

I think it is Disraeli who is attributed with the "lies, **** lies" saying.
Always take these figures which are bandied around with a pinch of salt. I started to notice a trend in the reporting of any CofC events in terms of money earned. "this event was worth ?30 million to the city etc." and I felt this was really just a way of heading off further criticism of the amount the thing cost. In effect very little of all the money "Worth" money is ever going to pay off the ?20+ Million hole the council will be facing in May of this year.

As to Chris Donaldson's ?200 million worth of advertising, for a start off you never should pay for a story in a newspaper, otherwise it's not a news story, so it's totally notional, made up and plucked out of the air figure, the actual figure is in fact zero.

In fact the what use is ?200 million if it doesn't go anyway to reduce the cost of the event, becasue it's a fictional amount, the council may have got some increase of income from car parking, but virtually everything that was put on cost the ratepayer extra money (policing stewarding, street cleansing etc etc) .

Chris Donaldson is back off to Oz soon so he's not even going to be around during our decades of prosperity based on this notional ?200 mill.
You also need to remember Chris was supposed to be the person who came up with brilliant idea of draining the dock for the McCartney concert, which cost about ?240,000 on the "feasibility" study before deciding it was a stupid idea.

One last thing in mid 2006 the Culture Company had a poster campaign, which was quite short lived that already 1.2 million people had already attended a C of C event....yeah I did a double take on that one.....Hmmm well they had been counting the RLPO summer pops events since 2004, in fact they had been counting attendees to "any" event that they had put "any" money into, it's those statistics again...carry on counting
