    Default kirkdale

Hello all - can anybody tell me what happened to Tillard Street please, I
believe it was in Kirkdale somewhere. At least it was in 1889 because there
was a murder committed there! And how about Hogarth Road (L4) where I
passed the first 13 years of my existence? It seems to have disappeared in
a complete re-shuffle of the area, including the Kirkdale Homes (otherwise
known as the Workhouse) where I worked for a brief period as an employee
of the Liverpool Corporation. Any info would be most appreciated.

Tillard Street was halfway down Easby Road.I walked past it every day going to St Johns School 1942 till 1948. It had a geengrocers shop on one corner
where we used to get a penny worth of fades ( old apples and pears with the bad bits cut out) on the opposite corner was a general store where we bought our sinkers (it`s called bread pudding now) after coming out of Westminster Road baths,
The area was demolished and new houses built but they never lasted long.
I think there might be an odd bit of Kirkdale homes perimeter wall still standing

I believe Kirkdale homes (old workhouse) can be found on my site 18stanley. Click on the link below and see a view of them from Rumney road and welcome to the forum by the way. Some great memories there Gregs dad.

A belated thank you,Ged. I'm gradually putting its story together with a
    few good pics.
Now for a harder one, with even more memories for me. Any pics or info
of North Dingle? Especially a photo before its makeover, when the last
vestige of the tannery was still operating?

Or should I be thanking Greg's Dad?

North Dingle on the Fountains Rd side had St John`s church on the corner, houses and the tannery on the left hand side.On the Easby Rd side was St Johns senior boys school now demolished on the other, houses. On the corner of North Dingle and Sessions Rd was a large clothes store selling all kinds of clothes and shoes and incorporating a Pawnshop. People pawned the old man`s suit on monday and redeemed them on friday ready for going out on sat/sun nights. That is why a man`s suit lasted for 10 years or more, becuase it spent most of it`s life hanging up in the pawnshop.
