Xkopite, you have opened the old memory cells so wide that I can almost taste those sausage sarnies that sustained a young ordinary seaman so many
years ago. There use to be trays piled high with hot sausages and bacon and doorsteps of bread which you could have dipped in the bacon fat, a bit of brown sauce and your meal was complete. It's over 40 years ago that I entered the portals of Stans greasy spoon, but i've never had a sarnie to beat them. I'm off to have a ryvita, got to watch the cholesterol!
I can,t remember the street,I was sailing out of the Canada then

Xkopite, Stan Waters was a couple of doors from the Dominion pub Bankhall street off the dock road, cheers Ernie.

    Thanks lads,
Trying to find a picture of this cafe, as yet no luck.
If anyone has a picture from the 50/60s or a present day picture I would be grateful if you could post it please.

    Hi,

Stan was my Grandad but he died between the wars - so the canteens were run by my Dad (Ron) and his two brothers (Arthur and Norman) during the 50's/60's /70's. I used to visit the canteens when I was young and I seem to remember that there was one on Sandhills Lane and another opposite Brocklebank Dock ... I am sure there were others, both in Liverpool and Birkenhead, but the detail escapes me. I'd also love to see any photo's of the Stan Waters canteens if anyone has one.

    Cheers.
