I've had the pleasure of being directly involved in this project for many months and it was a huge pleasure to have been invited along with local school kids, Andrew McKeown the artist and other members of the local community for a small, intimate official unveiling of a piece of artwork that will be in position for several decades.

What's in the suitcases?

Over the last few months, local schools (St Hugh’s, Smithdown Primary, St Anne’s and Lawrence Road incl. residents from Stephenson Court sheltered accommodation) have been working hard, producing artwork, commemorative coins and other bits and bobs that will remain locked within the suitcases for future generations of local residents to enjoy when in the future they will will be opened again!

Quote from the Artist:

The inspiration for the sculpture came from Edge Hill’s rich railway heritage and its importance in the development of passenger rail travel. The sculpture will hopefully evoke memories of previous journeys, leaving and returning to Liverpool by train. The use of old suitcases, station trolleys and chests gives the sculpture a nostalgic feel and hopefully it will make the viewer think about the history and significance of the railways in Edge Hill.
Wavertree MP Luciana Berger also attended.
