    Exclamation Lime Street Media Wall

THE nation’s biggest media wall was officially launched on Liverpool’s Lime Street yesterday.

It will rival Piccadilly Circus’s iconic video display, its owners said.

Its 31 metre by 7 metre digital LED screen can show images in one billion colours.

The £2.25m wall was built by St Johns Centre owners Land Securities but will be managed by advertising firm Ocean Outdoor.

Last night it showed images of Liverpool landmarks including the docks and Penny Lane.

But from July 28 Ocean will let the screen out for commercial use for at least the next five years.

Damian Cox, CEO of Ocean Outdoor, said: “This is a fantastic advertising platform. The wall is unique with unavoidable presence.”

Concern was expressed last week that the screen could distract drivers and cause accidents.

It's a great sight to see, but i hope it's used for more than just adverts.

I've only seen the Test screen, but I'm not impressed.
Especially considering what we did have.

Thank you Greg's Dad, for taking this photo in 1961.

    Agreed Philip.

I will be doing a then and now page on my site and if any image epitomises the loss of something so grand for something so bland then this is it.

    Yes, well done gd.

    As above ^

I think it looks a hell of a lot better than St Johns Car Park!
Makes Liverpool feel more alive really, like Picadilly Circus!

Lime St is on he edge of the centre now as the centre is migrating to the riverfront. Behind the station the centre stops. This sort of thing should be in another part of the centre nearer the riverfront. Castle St maybe. L1 complex?

I have to agree that anything is better than St Johns.

The new screen is ok - and that is the word - just ok - - it could have been a lot better I think. It looks like a giant inflatable bouncy castle or something.
yes, it bright and colourful, but it reminds me of something from a fairground.
