    Default Liverpool 1969

I found these pictures from 1969 in an old box of slides.

Is the cold storage long gone?

    Hello Edf

Your photographs are wonderful to see. Yes the Cold Storage in Williamson Square has been swept away and the Liverpool FC store stands on the spot today. I believe the building was an old theatre. Our resident theatre expert, PhilipG, can address the question of what it had been and when it was demolished.

    All the best

    Default Theatre Royal, Williamson Square.

I'll put a piece in the 'Some Liverpool Theatres' thread.

Don't know if you've seen this Philip, you probably have, but it's the Liverpool page to that link posted earlier.

    Thanks.
I've seen it before, but it deserves a wider audience.

I love looking at old photo's of Liverpool, the slide of Williamson Square is great. Does anyone have an up to date image of how the square looks today for EdF? If not I'll try to take one if I'm in town this week.

Hobbies was brill wasn't it klaatu. Those little plastic animals in the glass case on the right as you went in the right hand doorway. The part of the shop through the left doorway had all the jigsaws in it.

Hobbies - my brother used to get all his model train stuff there...Remember City Models as well? If I'm right, it stood approximately somewhere by where Boots stands in Clayton Square...

There was a model shop in Moorfields,I think that was called City Models, they moved to Dale St, then to Elliot St and I`m not sure but I think they were in Bold St after that before closing down not so long ago.
I remember Hobbies in Tarleton St, in the left window they had the biggest meccano set ever made. It was actually a piece of furniture with draws and pull down leaves containing thousand of pieces. It retailed for a couple of hundred pounds. Serious modellers always used City Models as their staff were modellers themselves who knew what they were talking about, but the staff in Hobbies were just salesmen.
In the`40s and `50s I used to design my own model aircraft on the back of wallpaper then buy my material from the model shops to build and fly them rather than buy kits

City models on Elliot street can be seen on the 3rd & 4th line down on this page

    http://inacityliving.piczo.com/?g=41897456&cr=7

It was on one corner of a small block, the Villiers pub being on the other.

It moved to Stanley Street, on the right, just down from Dale Street and it had a neighbouring barbers in the basement with three old fellas.

It did then move to Bold Street, near the top, on the right if walking up. Moved into the old Ace Place on Dale Street as well before closing down. Had a spell in Seel st too.
