The Adolphi - I like it!
Yes, it is a matter of historic record that his half-brother Alois, lived in Upper Stanhope St. They shared the same father. Alois was by his 2nd wife and Adolf by his 3rd...
The claim is,to say the least, distinctly dubious Spiderman. Historians have found no evidence of it. The only "evidence" is Bridget's book. This is the 2nd book she wrote on the subject: in the 1st...
Adolf?
I had a look at that Oudeis and it seems:
gerk butty: slice of plain, uncoated bread
So maybe Joe Gerk's is where the prisoners would eat dry bread and water (in the old days!). The mystery...
Some great shots there Ged. Great to see inside the iron church too - must make an effort to get there - perhaps during Heritage Open Days this year.
A friend of my Mum's has told me that Joe Gerk's is slang for Walton Prison and asked if I know who Joe Gerk was. I'd never heard the term before but it seems that it is a Scouse term for Walton....
Steve Binns is giving a talk on the 80th anniversary of the case at St George's Hall tomorrow (Thursday) - will be interesting to hear what he says.
Do be careful - I don't think they are joking when they say "fragile and dangerous" - you could find yourself in the Mersey!
PS Sorry if I sound like your Mum!
Hi Burkhilly, glad you enjoyed the walk. Tried to pm you re: mailing list but it says your inbox is full. Get in touch if you wish to join my mailing list.
We did have a lovely day for the walk....
Hear, hear, he's been a terrific help!
Thanks for info on Balmer.
Excuse my ignorance but who is Bert Balmer?
Thanks for showing me around today Steve - that was so useful and I would never have found those graves without you. You really are the Anfield Cemetery expert. It was much appreciated and so good of...
Have pm-ed you Burkhilly
Hi Steve
I have emailed you but the email keeps bouncing back. I mailed steve.m1sb@tiscali.co.uk - is that correct?
I'm going along to Anfield Cemetery for the 1st time tomorrow or Saturday to prepare for a walk I'm doing in the area. I want to find the location of famous or unusual graves such as Maybrick's,...
Sorry about the quality - only had mobile on me when I happened to pass by.

Was in Allerton a few weeks ago researching a talk. Is this the New Heys that has been mentioned?163801638116382
It just occurred to me that I often photograph notices these days rather than write notes and I have just found these 2 pictures of the descriptions of the portrait of your Great-Uncle and his wife....
I'm venturing out of the city centre with my guided walks this year and am doing one on Knotty Ash on Monday 12th July, just in case that is of interest to anyone on here.
More details:...
These are the gates to Walton Park Cemetery, now also the entrance to Rice Lane Farm.
They are inspired by Jean Millet's "Angelus (see painting)
There's a portrait of him and his wife (Lady Frances Campbell Wilson I think) in the main ballroom in the Town Hall.
Must be part of the History Fair which is at St George's Hall on 20th and 21st March.
