Bernie Wenton
TRIBUTES FOR THE 'UNFORGETTABLE' BERNIE WENTON.
Liverpool’s Bernie Wenton has died after a battle with cancer. The
much-loved singer, who was crowned Stars in their Eyes champion with his
performance as Nat King Cole, passed away peacefully at home in Toxteth
aged 59. Friends described grandfather Mr Wenton as "a wonderful guy".
Fellow performer Ray Amando said: "He played in bands, was a vocal teacher
and sang - he was a great, fun guy, a personality. It's so sad to lose him.
In show business there are a lot of people who are affected, but there was
no side to Bernie. He always had a smile on his face and he did a lot of
charity work. He was only diagnosed with cancer last year and was having
treatment, but it spread. He couldn't work because of his illness and
everyone rallied round, holding gala nights. They've been so kind." Mr
Wenton was born and brought up in Toxteth. His day job was as a bricklayer,
but music was his passion. His father was a musician and three of the
Wenton brothers - Bernie, Willy and Bobby --formed the Buzz Brothers. The
group is named on Mathew Street's ‘Wall of Fame’ outside the Cavern. During
the 1960s Bernie performed with many well-known Liverpool names but it was
in 1991 he found fame as the winner of ITV's Stars in Their Eyes, later
touring all over Britain and abroad. Second wife Trisha and four children
survive Mr Wenton. RIP Bernie- “Happy Days”.

Would u like this moved to the Hall of Fame? Have you got a link to the story?
-
No I have n't but Hall of Fame would be appropriate.
Maybe the Ring of Fire story should be separate thread, what do you think?
-
Was it recent this sad death? Where did the news come from?

I remember the brothers in the early days when they were called 'The Shuffler Sound' - then they became 'The Buzz Brothers'. Bernie, Willy & Bobby. They were excellent - there would be literally queues around the block where ever they were on. They had a big following in the 60s & 70s. Word would get round that they'd be on somewhere, and we'd dash down to try and get in. They played clubs in town and all over L'pool.
I can remember their songs and dance routines very well.
It was in the Echo about Bernie last week.
A very sad loss for Liverpool.
Those brothers should have been more famous .. somehow fame alluded them .. like the other well know Liverpool Soul group called 'The Chants' - who were around at the same time as the Meseybeat era and some say that they lost out to the Beatles. (black groups didn't have the same opportunities in those days).
There were lots of tributes to Bernie last week - in the Echo and on local radio.
