St Paul's Square area
The one time Welsh stronghold which was the St Paul's area. The Welsh built streets in Dingle and off County Road, in fact a whole line of streets from behind Spellow Lane running North, take the initial letter of the firm of builders which was Owen and William Owen Elias.
Here we see St Paul's church with its distinctive dome, alongside Exchange Station in 1923. Bixteth Street stadium was later built on this site.

The Cross Keys is the only pub surrounded by the office blocks now unless you go into Old Hall street itself. I had my engagement in this pub in January 1987.

"my engagement in this pub in January 1987"
We had our fun, but were never leery
When in the Cross Keys I had my bash
enough terylene to wrap the the Queen Mary
and mile upon mile of bristly moustache

3rd Jan 1987. Seems a funny date to have it on now with everyone possibly being skint after Christmas but it was a full house. The Cross(ed) Keys are behind us - oh yes they are.
