Historic Merseyside train urgently needs new home

An Historic 1941 built L M S Merseyside electric train is looking for a new home. The train, known by British Rail as a class 502, has been given notice to quit its present site at Tebay in Cumbria.
The Friends of the 502 Group are now urgently trying to raise funds to move this unique piece of Liverpool railway history to safety. The group were undergoing restoration of the train at Tebay & hope to continue with the work on, or near Merseyside . An appeal has been launched by the group to save this Historic old train http://www.class502.org.uk/news-blog...-move-the-502/ If the funds can't be found then this part of Merseysides rich rail heritage may be lost.

Having such short notice to move the train is a real problem. 12 Weeks is not a long time to raise funds.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that you 'raise' all the funds needed. It would be, I am sure, better re-sited than 'razed' to the ground and be lost forever.

I've visited the site a couple of times and I'm lost as to why the owners are forcing the 502 to leave; perhaps you could explain why ?

I've always thought that it was criminal of the National Railway Museum to let the beautifully restored L.M.S units deteriorate in such a way. Millions of Merseysiders grew-up, lived and died using these trains on a regular basis and I bet hundreds of books could be written based on the experiences and adventures people had using them. Surely a new home on Merseyside could be found ?

The guy that owns the site has had and accepted an offer for the site. He has been very good to the group but he is a business not a charity .
