Childwall C of E (Salisbury House) was noted for its 'strange goings on'. The caretaker in the '80's lived in the top floor of the building and on numerous occasions, he heard things 'moving' around.Quote:

Wasn't Earle Rd Juniors used as a morgue during the war? The school had a swimming pool underneath its building, in the basement. Strange goings on in here I reckon!
The Bluecoat School, while I didn't go (my bro did), has the infamous subject of 'Peg Leg' who was a shot down in his plane in the war and crawled up to the building and passed away in the corridor. Peg Leg's Corridor as it always was known was a very very cold underground corridor at the best of times whether the story was true or not!

There is said to be a ghost in Anfield jnrs, I knew two people who worked there during the evenings and they said say there would be strange knocks and bumps. :eek: - ( but I don't believe in ghosts) :)
My school of Heyworth Street had an apparition or ghost which appeared every morning at nine o,clock prompt at the gate.
Oh no that was our teacher Mrs Lovat or "love it" as we kids called her. Didn,t get the joke at the time lol

It's the same with theatres, castles, inns, & country houses. The one place where more people die than anywhere else (namely hospitals) never seems to attract the same 'hauntings.'
I've not come across any famous school ghosts in Liverpool so far, I'd love to find a Moaning Myrtle or Nearly Headless Nick haunting a local comp though.
I remember that people used to tell us that Hillfoot school was haunted but that was par for the course as it lay derelict for years and it wouldn't me nearly so much fun if there wasn't a ghost.
It may well be a story, but it's a fairly long standing story - 20 years + to my knowledge. It's the corridor...now let me see. Enter the building from the main doorway, turn right past the Head's office and go down the staircase till the bottom. The door opens on to 'Peg Leg's corridor - it's that one.Quote:

I know the passage you mean. It was the route we had to take to get to the headmasters office for punishment. The teacher went via Shirley Hall to get there quicker to get his story in first. It is a damp miserable place because it is below ground level at that point in the building which is built on a slope, there is no natural light there and it is the ideal place to start a story like that. I went to Bellerive FCJ High School in Windermere Terrace.
There is an underground tunnel that links 2 buildings that we had to use to get from lesson to lesson, and it was creepy down there.
I remember being told that a nun from the old convent used to haunt the tunnel. She had fallen down 'the glass stairs' and died.
Was that a sort of sub-way like TJ's, London Road that goes under Stafford Street?

Does it have to be a certain age the builiding site to be haunted? I do think spirits run in a lot of places..
Hospitals when people die.. Had a ghost in me sisters room and mums room at their death.. They said they saw a man in the corner of the room.. ???? Different hospitals.. but the same experience...
I just said ... OKAY.. Go away whoever you are.. and then my loved ones seemed to be at peace...
Interesting reading that...I have always been interested in the possible hauntings in hospitals, but they don't seem to attract the same attention as the other places I mentioned. Like I said in an earlier post, the Seamen's Orphanage I live behind is apparently rife with 'sightings.'Quote:

My sister also had a polterquist in her house in Upper Maine.. When she wore anything that was made of black onyx.. it seemed to stir the unknown in the place.. The silver in the kitchen would fly across the room.. She moved from there soon after... and would never wear that stone.. True story...

I don't think it needs to be any age for a place to be haunted. But it would depend on what 'haunted' is. My family saw my late pop in our house shortly after he passed away but nothing since. I wouldn't class our house as haunted.
Childwall C of E was rife with ghost stories to scare the kids but on exploring some of the rooms, you would get some amazingly strange 'cold spots' in a room - literally like walking in to an open fridge!
Cold spots..? That reminds me of when I stayed in a college Dorm in California with 3 roomates.. We walked into our little room and immediately were all shocked :shock: It was like a freezer in there.. and we had NO air conditioning.. No one elses room felt like this.. :unibrow: It was pretty frightening at the time. The college in LA wasn't that old.. so, don't know.. but, felt very spooky the presence .. we all left... :)
As I remember Peg Leg was the ghost from Colomendy so was probably known to may Liverpool school children. I had (and still have) many friends who were in Bluecoat and i've never heared them mention Peg Leg.
Where did you pick this up Cad, I love trying to trace stories to their origins :).

He was also known to walk through the dormitories clanking chains as he went.

The cock-eyed nun of Bishop Goss was another 'urban myth' methinks. One dinner hour a few of us went into the old infants come seniors block - the original part of the school which was partly disused now that St. Gregs secondary school on Prince Edwin street took the seniors.
We were all making our way gingerly along the corridor and into a room that was like the old carlsberg complaints advert, dust everywhere, suddenly someone noticed the bare lightbulb hanging down on about 4ft of twisted wire from the high ceiling was swinging and screamed whereby we all made a mad dash out with one lad catching his fingers in the rapidly closing door.
Hearts beating fast, we legged it out of the doorway into Cazneau Street into fresh air and daylight - next stop, Kitty Carters minute sweet shop to recount our tale and stock up on gobstoppers.
Our school must have been haunted as every day i walked through the gates it made me shiver and the gloom took over :unibrow:
My sister went to Blackburne House and said there was a story of a young girl haunting the tower or something on the roof. she said there was a staircase up there that they where all scared of? suppose all schools have stories, plus me sister is a nutter:PDT_Aliboronz_24: dont tell her i said that :shock:
