Russ Hamilton....a forgotten star?

I'd like to suggest the musician/singer,Russ Hamilton for the hall of fame,though I must admit,I had no knowledge of,till spotting an album cover in the Liverpool music section,of the museum!? Russ,(real name,Ronnie Hulme) was from Everton,and he pre-dated the Beatles,by scoring several hits in the U.S. from 1957 onwards,including one,who's A-side was a million seller here,and the B-side doing likewise in America,which I think is unique!!!
His career faded after a couple of years,and apparently,he made little money from his success,due to bad(?) management,and didn't even receive his coveted gold discs! He died in North wales in 2008,a forgotten star,but does anyone here,remember him?

Oudeius description is true. I thought the song "We will make love" deserved a Swiss yodel or two. "Rainbow" reminds me of Elvis's Wooden Heart period. Not my cup of tea but he deserves a mention in Merseyside music.

Wise words about the power of attorney. The record labels etc. are still 'at-it'.

He was a hit in 1957 and for most of that year I was three.

But that's what I meant.....no one I've spoken to,has ever heard of him! Just seems odd,in these days when almost everything is "remembered",by someone,somewhere,there's no mention of him! I wonder if he's got a brick,in Mathew st?:neutral:

I could'nt refrain from sticking my oar in on this one. I well remember Russ,he was'nt a raving rocker just a nice guy who sang gentle ballads. When we were in our teens we would sing his songs as we sat on the tenement stairway,they seemed to mean something then,adolescent wishes for a girl we could sing those songs too. Russ is one of the many forgotten pop stars of the 50's and 60's;Johnny Gentle,Terry Dene,Emil Ford,Craig Douglas et al. Where are they now?

There is that mention in his obit that he had trouble with his 'Rs'. This put me in mind of that Only fools episode where the club singer had much the same problem. Vewy humewous, as I recall.:)

I was 6, I don't remember many singers although I do remember the tunes. I listen to loads from that era on utube but I've never come across any of his music !

For some reason I thought he was American but in fact he was born in Everton in 1932 and died 2008!

Well I thought he was ok, not just me cup of tea but he did ok to have hits at that time both here and the US. Popular music didn't just start in the in the 70s and leave the poor chap alone, I'm surprised at you Oudies and Zap!

Had a quick look,and they're all still around! Johnny Gentle,now 74,ended up as a joiner,and now lives in Kent.Terry Dene,now 72,is still performing,recently at the "100 club". Emile Forde,now 73,was the first black singer in the U.K. to sell a million,holding the record for the longest titled song with "What do You Want to Make Those Eye's at me for?" And finally,Craig Douglas,now 70,and in a wheelchair,but still singing in public,at benefits!

I have put my interview with Russ Hamilton (done in 1999) on utube hoping more people will get to know him. I have been a big fan of his when I was young and really sad to hear his story and how he was cheated of his income. He told me that he did not even get to keep his gold record! He was extremely popular all over the world especially in the late 50s and very unfortunate regarding receiving the reward of his success. Yes, he certainly should be remembered in the Hall of Fame. He told me that he wished he had a much better manager and he would have made millions! Spencer Leigh’s press article gave a really good review of Russ.
