I spent a lovely evening on Saturday taking in one of Liverpool's best assets its beaches,watching the sunsets over our beaches can be spectacular,peaceful and very therapeutic it's good for the soul.

As Bernard Matthews said 'Beautiful, really beautiful'. Gorgeous pics Paul - How do u capture such lovely photos?

Sometimes you feel like you have the whole landscape to yourself it's really calming,other times you see people walking their dog,watching the sunset,having a dip in the sea,having a beach party or even a sing song because I saw someone with his guitar yesterday,if you ever get the opportunity on a Summers evening do it.:celb (23):

Where the ship is on the second picture is a very busy shipping lane which heads off into the Irish Sea,they look great when it gets darker and they're all lit up.

Wirral beach to play host to sand yachts.

ONE of Wirral's beaches is to become host to hundreds of sandyachts taking part in the European Championships of what is becoming an increasingly popular "green" sport next year.

Sandyachting has become a major sport in Europe but is still largely unknown in the UK, but Wirral Sandyacht Club (WSYC) has become the largest club of its type in the country with around 150 members.

Now it is preparing to host the European Championships in September 2007, a tournament which is only held in the UK once every five years and has never been to Merseyside before.

It was beautiful, really uplifting. The sand was golden but still a pain when it gets in your shoes!

Formby Point and Beach includes Red Squirrel Reserve

The walk through the squirrel reserve onto the beach then back through the reserve in search of squirrels! I managed to film a few towards the end of the clip.

After starting off at Fazakerley station we headed off to Moorfields on the underground (I

still love doing that) and we caught the train to West Kirby,on arrival we headed for the

Marina.

There we saw Ian Rush walking his pet rat.:) we crossed the beach to Little

Eye which is the first of three island that make up Hilbre using the safest route.Little eye is tiny so we headed for Middle Eye which is rockpool heaven if

you have kids,were I took this picture of a tiny fish.I'm not sure what it is but poisonous Weaver fish inhabit these pools and kids should never enter them

without

wellies.

As Hilbre is cut off from the mainland every day you get to look at all the underwater stuff that is left

behind.

On the sandbank off Middle Eye/Hilbre there is a colony of resident Common and Atlantic Grey Seals which are best viewed with binoculars and was the

reason I was here.This was the best I could do with my

camera.

Middle Eye

throws up some great rock formations that begged to be explored before we headed off to Hilbre itself.

On Hilbre you can't help but love the colours of the rock that make up the

island.

Hilbre is really rugged and part of the island is surrounded by the sea and that

adds to its beauty.Watching the waves roll in is really relaxing.

At the end of

the island there's an old disused lifeboat station which was interesting to look around.There was this very unusual ladder attached to the

rockface.

In this bay we sat for a while and watched the occasional seal pop up from the water before dissappearing under the surface

chasing fish I would imagine.While looking for seals I spotted a rare Red Throated Diver (bird) off the island which made my day.Here's the nose of a seal

After a long tiring day we headed off home,all in all I

would highly recommend it but small children will find it hard going and probably just the rockpooling bit will be enough for them,also Binoculars are a must

if you want to observe the seals.

This is the reason why Merseyside is a quality

place to live and this is what our landlocked cousins are missing out on.

I've just watched a program on BBC2 called "Coast", it started off at Anglesy and

ended up with showing the Iron statues on Crosby beach, it also showed Hilbre Island, it was really interesting.
Did anyone else see it?

Also came across this very interesting webpage about the wreck of an 1890s steamship and U-boat victim, The Liverpool, located 18 nautical miles east of south-east of the Isle of Man, and about 40 nautical miles north of Anglesey. An article that appeared in Diver August 2005.

We did the squirrel walk again, it was chocker. Saw a couple of pesky squirrels but were too quick for capturing.

Paul, smashing photos, one of my favourite walks and islands. Once had to take a kid from church back to the mainland because he was bored whilst on a day out. We ended up knee high in the incoming tide, we were all scared to death (another kid came home too) as none of us could swim
