Finally we are seeing the demolition of this infamous Lime Street 'landmark'...

I was sitting on the bus the other day going past the building when a couple of ladies behind me were discussing the building. One used to work there and remembered it being a 'sick building syndrome' and was hated by the workers.
The contractors have certainly had their money's worth when it's come to the time frame of dropping the building - we needed the late Fred Dibnah to come along, saw a couple of legs off and drop it in his usual perfect manner!
Ah excellent! Finally that horrid concrete monstrosity is gone! Here's hoping that whatever is to take its place is a sight better than that! :handclap:

Passed there today - there's about five floors to go. An ugly building, which really was a blot, along with those grotty shops that have now gone too. I can't wait to see the finished product. I seem to remember that when the shops and tower was built, there was a lot of opposition, because the building would block off the view of Lime Street Station's facade. Does anyone know when this was?

i'm sad to see this unique building go it had a completely sound structure and a lot of potential eg major refurb money has been wasted pulling it down to replace with nothing waste of a good building!
It was a nicely designed and well proportioned building. The widows protruded giving a nice effect. I like it. It was just shabby that all, with an awful aspect a street level. All that could have easily been rectified.Quote:

A colour pic of that taken by Peter Leeson then on the town planning is in his new book.
The architect for this building was richard seifert, and in my opinion was a brilliant design, as pointed out just a bit shabby due to lack of maintenance. It was even surveyed and told there was nothing wrong with the building and complied with all modern day health & safety issues, there was also a campaign to save it but didn't succeed. As usual the council take the easiest option by demolishing it....terrible!

Another Peter Leeson shot. He actually left the architects planning dept disgusted at the policies of demolishing old buildings and made the film 'us and them' as a protest about the people of Scottie Road against the town planners.

Nice Plans! Pity they have just pulled that building down.
It actually looked alright during its demolition when lopped down to just 7 storeys, cube shaped.
Here's Concourse House in its last stages
I wonder what the new concrete structure in Skelhorne Street is. It was covered in straw bales when Concourse House was getting demolished.

I wondered the same thing whether its just temporary for the builders???
