St Bonaventure in Walton, which is now Archbishop Beck. Rubbish school then but better now, I believe. We could all pray but very few of us had a decent education. Brian King, the English Teacher, sadly deceased, was a Saint who gave everyone a love of books. RIP Mr King

Having a sort out on my pc and found this I'd saved and forgotten about. It's a short film about Liverpool Collegiate. It's about 15 mins long and worth watching for the exterior and interior shots of the school now made into 90 apartments. The old assembly hall was like something from Hogwarts! It's interesting listening to accounts about school life there, and very sad to hear that after 1973 was the demise of this fine school.
Tragic when the results of a fire took its toll on the building.

don't forget there's plenty of pics of schools in this thread. You might find yours here -

Hi, I used to go to Ranworth Square infants and juniors, from about 1958. I then went on to Abbotsford, Secondary Modern, I remember crying when I found out I had to go there( I lived just around the corner) Because, as I put it. "The boys all swear" lol. Anyhow after about 12 months, Abbotsford merged with Ellergreen to become a Comprehensive. I now really thought I was posh going there.
That is great, I left Ellergreen in 69, and also went to Ranworth, but a lot earlier than you. lol. Dont know whether any of the old teachers that I remember would have been there when you were there. Mr Murphy (P.E) Mr Turner (English) Miss Woods, Miss Jackson, Mr Williams, Mrs Scott (Music) Mrs Dyson? How do you put pics on here? I have one taken when I was in a school play in Ranworth, which I would like to put on, just in case anyone recognises themselves.

Yeah that's the one Ged....I may well have been one of those scrawny kids in that photo! I remember the teacher ( Mr. Coleclough ) He had a fearsome collection of canes all of which he used quite freely!
The School was great though! Summers in the playground with the smell of strawberry Jam wafting over from Hartleys mixed with the smell of rubber from the Dunlop factory off Stalamine Road...Great! :)

I went to Farnworth Grammar. Its in Farnworth, Bolton and was closed and flattened in the 80s at the Tories command (an elite class within the Working class? hmmm) :)
A faint and admittedly tedious link - It was also the School that taught Alan Ball and Kenneth Wolstenholme (A lifelong Bolton Wanderers fan). Who'd have thought they'd come together a few years later as they did..........and they thought it was all over?
Alans family lived in the street behind where I used to live, and Kenneth was from Walkden, a few minutes away.
Just nostalgia for you :)

It's changed a lot since those pics.
You must of been leaving Ranny when I started. You where probably in my brothers year.
Ta for them. Very good (don't stop there).:PDT_Piratz_26::handclap:
You made a cute fairy,Linda!
One of those pics above (pic 5) was taken in the court yard. It was the only place with a bit of grass on. Sometimes in the summer, if you where lucky, you'd get to have a few hours in the sun doing school work. It was a big treat and made our day. :D
