Love the pics of Woodside sta - yet another great building hastily done away with. And for what? To suffer the injustice of becoming a bus depot...

Sorry for the images, but the film is very faded now.
Sirob and Merseywail, thanks to you both for posting all of these precious photos. They belong to us all now.

Sirob, you say the film is faded, but all hope is not lost....this is my corrected version of your most recent Black 5 photo, even working from your posted version the improvement is dramatic, and I'm no Photoshop expert. Given access to the original slides / prints or negs, a professional could probably pull a surprising amount of detail back from the murk. Hang on to the originals!
love the ones of woodside and just wodering if anyone has more pictures of railways on the wirral as i used to live there
Thanks for your feedback, always glad to share.
How about St. Marys, Walton Parish Church;

I'm interested in Walton too. :)
thanks for the pics of wirral any of rock ferry by the way
Thats the kind of density and scale we need to the east of the dock road/costco site again. Its a really under used, vast space that is perfect for more density and scale and to naturally continue the CBD/central area of the city. A calming of Leeds st and the relocation of retail "sheds" like costco would be great for this area.
Great pics of Gt Howard st and surrounding areas Sirob. Which nutter got up the chimney :)
Some more Walton views;
Sweetshop, Walton Lane, by Stanley Park swingpark, 1964
The Elm Tree, Barlows Lane/Westminster Road, demolished 1978
Walton Road, by the Co-op, unusal houses, 1966
Walton Road, derelict Penrhyn Castle pub 198?

walton on the hill station at street level i would love to see
Look at the size of the warehouse on the Dock Rd!!!! All these were demolished in the 1970/80s. A crime. The entrance to The Waterloo Good depot is shown. The dock in the foreground is the quite historic Victoria Dock. This is now filled in. It would terrific if it was excavated, or even partly excavated and high quality buildings built around the water space.

Fantastic picture. It's sickening to think those buildings were demolished ! :PDT_Xtremez_42:
it is a real shame, but liverpool was dieing in the 70/80's, who was gonna pay for their support , upkeep etc.. it is a shame
Walton has to be one of my favorite parts of Liverpool too...I find County Road a fascinating place to walk along as I always spot something new. The detailing on some of the buildings is just amazing. The scans which Sirob has posted of Walton have been a pleasure to look at; i have a fascination with pics from the 70's; must be the "Life on Mars" factor!
Hi I recently heard the art deco pole which stood outside the entrance to the Kingsway Tunnel is now in a council depot in St Domingo Vale, who makes these decisions, surly you would agree it would look far better than the unseen roundabout thats there now (I say unseen as most of us don't notice what’s actually planted there)
Just in-case you don't know what I am going on about see Sirobs post on this thread number 296
debz
Yes WW, The Liver and Tower Buildings amongst others. I never knew that was a Bibby's warehouse as their other premises were on Gt Howard street and around Formby st as you'll know.
Odd that you should mention this,as i've recently been asking around, if anyone knew what had happened to it? I've been surprised at how many older people dont remember it at all! Anyway, now i can show them your great pic' Sirob! Unfortunately, yet another bad example of Liverpool "culture" (as in let's knock it down, and make a carpark:rolleyes:)
I agree. they could put it at the end of William Brown St. Plenty of pavement space there. it would look fabulous restored. sometimes the council just seem to miss these opportunities. look how good the restored toll booth is.
didn't it used to be in the large objects museum with some of the old toll booths? or is my memory failing me...again
Here's a rare close-up shot of the Customs House after it was bombed in WW2 but before it was demolished. The statue of William Huskisson (by J. Gibson) is outside. It looks like the statue is on top of the air-raid shelter but I imagine it was actually behind it.
The statue was moved to Princes Avenue in 1954 so the photo is before that date.

Blundellsands;
By 1907, there was seven large houses on the seaward side of Burbo Bank Road North. Between them and the sea were large gardens and sand dunes up to 25 foot high. After about 1910, the migration of the mouth of the river Alt southwards had lowered the beach by approx. ten feet, allowing waves to reach and start eroding the dunes. This process was so rapid that the houses had to be demolished and the sea washed away their foundations. In 1936 the Alt was diverted out to sea, half way between Hightown and Hall Road, but even in 1948 the erosion continued. Tipping of tinworks **** and then rubble formed a barrier from the Alt breakwater to Brighton-le-Sands eventually. Finally a promenade completed the job.
All photo's are credited R. Kay Gresswell, who produced a comprehensive study of this coastline.
