Well i am proud of my Irish ancestry:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
I am proud that they came to Liverpool and settled here.
I am proud of my Irish relatives who live here and in Ireland now.
I am proud of my cities culture, and i hope that all groups are all remembered in capital of culture. I cheer for an Irish recognition as they are my main history, so of course i would long to see something for them. Scotland road is the ideal setting as so many lived there. I hope others cheer for their own heritage, it is after all what makes us who we are.
I would also like to challenge anyone ( meaning the invisible water way man ) to point out where on this thread i said the Irish are bigger than any other group? its impossible as i never said it, but it keeps coming back in post. I said that a huge percentage of this city has Irish blood in them. not everyone. Am i wrong in saying that.
Now i am getting pm`s from admin trying to calm this all down. I respect them for what they are doing, but why should i back down. I never said anything wrong, if i did show me. Unlike a little EEJIT on this thread ( wonder who that is? ) who seems hell bent on attacking the Irish at every opportunity. that in my book is racismn, i dont like racist, and nothing will ever make me meet them half way.
If people think im wrong, then so be it. I can go, but if im staying then i stand by all that i say. that bloke is racist through and through, and i dont back down to pigs like that.
Im done, no more from me. let him have his wonderful comments then do what you like with this thread.
:ninja:
Tony,,, Feller,,
We come out of the same stable, you and me. Bred awayfrom home as 'the fighting Irish.'
Points have been made and now it's time to move on. Go with what admin says 'Our Kid.' I have advised my friends and relatives, both in Ireland and elsewhere to do the same.
30-01-08.
I will be putting leeks in the scouse tonight, along with, some Haggis, and salami, that way you get a bit of every thing.

I think I'm outta' steam on this one too. :PDT_Aliboronz_11:
Let's all shush now ! :D
... hey, it's a good job we are not in a pub having a meet up !! we'd be thrown out  lol !!
One of the ships I was on had a West Indian crew and the carpenter made steel drums to earn his living while at home. He made a few on board from old oil drums and taught a few of the crew a few basic tunes.
The ship was the Benefactor (Harrison Line) and the band became the 'Beni Allstars. Boy did we have some parties with them providing the music.
At Christmas (might have been New Year - long time ago!) we were in La Guaira, port for Caracas, Venezuela, and had a great time. Lots of movement between ships and our steel band marching up and down the quay with us in tow. Constantly invited onto other ships and fed copious amounts of alcohol.
Happy days.
or should that be Happy Daze?
don,t put any haggis in my scouse, but as the quarum says, let,s move on.
I do want to say the last word thou.................last word.:ninja:
I,ve got two ww11 tin hats here and me and the stuffed dog have got ours on, ha ha
I think that we should have a party to celebrate how long this thread has lasted.
You know us. Any excuse for a celebration.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Gerry you took the words out of my mouth !
I went to put that in my last post but decided to write a different comment :D
:PDT_Piratz_26: Yeah ! let's have a 'kick ass party' lol ! :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Will some bottles of Cain's double bock do for starters?
Brains is about it I think
So as soon as we heard there was going to be no drink at the celebration the thread dies.:PDT_Aliboronz_24::PDT_Aliboronz_24:
There are quite a few Irish on here Joan and they really are a friendly bunch. Molly and Gerry have already been over to Liverpool to visit me a few times. In fact they stayed with me only a few weeks ago. They live in the countryside of Donegal and myself and another member from here went to stay with them in October (Halloween) for a week. We had a great time.
I used to work with an Irishman, great fellow, Ritchie Long, he tought me Gaelic, I could speak quite a bit of it. I spoke it to an Irish girl in Spain, and she was amazed, she only knew a bit, (the swear words)! God bless Arthur Guinness :) He used to have a saying when it was foggy, I think it was, and excuse my spelling, Ciohrah drullacgh, which meant, 'The Fairy Mists' . If this is wrong, or any of our Irish Cousins know the correct saying and spelling, I would appreciate being corrected. I have never been to Ireland, though I would love to go, and went out with a girl from Dublin many moons ago.
Cheers Verdi..........................
IT seems difficult to define how long the Irish have been crossing the Irish Sea to settle in Liverpool. Muir (1907, p.304) notes that there were already Irish names among the Liverpudlian citizens as early as 1378. However large waves of immigration started only in the late 18th century. A writer in 1795 already noticed the great influx of Irish in the city.
There has always been a trickle at any time, as there was from everywhere else. There were two large influxes. The famine and after WW1 when the rebellion took hold. Many fled from the violence. That was when the Orange and Green took hold in the city in areas where the Irish settled for the next 40 years - they brought their bigotries with them. It has subsided to the point it is not an issue any more.
It states..
"THE 'Scouse' accent is well known to be very specific of Liverpool's city and different from the surrounding part of Lancashire and Cheshire.
Some language experts have been able to identify a hybrid of Lancashire and Irish. The dialect is a relict of the great influx of Irish immigrants in the nineteenth century and shows that the new settlers were so numerous that they changed the very accent of the local people."
The accent is heavily Welsh influenced. How can anyone writing about it leave out the Welsh.
I find the Liverpool very different to any Irish accents.
I've deleted todays posts up to date. This leaves us where we came in at the previous post.
You deleted my " Kiss me im Irish "

From me to you Gnomie.
:lol::lol:
I feel a bit like Gerry Adams here stepping in to say "Any chance of learning from our mistakes and just living in Peace without grudges?"
John, or anyone else who is interested.
This is what happened.
I was telling a friend about the long debate we'd had on this thread.
I was telling my friend the interesting views and opinions which came in from all angles.
my friend said to me, 'When Dublin was Co C was Liverpool included ?'
I said I did not know, but I know that Gnomie had mentioned a statue which is in Dublin, and I havn't seen it so I don't know if Liverpool is mentioned there.
Now that this thread has caused an arguement I notice that waterways has stopped posting. well well, what a suprise. They one who had to reply to everything on here is now laying in the background filling his boots. :disgust:
I think this thread has probably run its course. Further postings on the subject of the Liverpool Irish may be made here.
