Amazing pic's Joe of Preston Street buildings, lived in Liverpool or surrounding area all of 60 odd yrs and that's the first time I've ever seen those buildings,they were always hidden by Manchester Street. What else is hidden away?

United Utilities working in William Brown Street yesterday,hope they don`t break any of the old flag stones and replace them with tarmac

Thanks, Joe. I agree with you in the hope that they don't mess up what was there. Maybe they are doing it because of the need to repair or replace sewer lines or electric cables etc below the flag stones?

The pavement around there is in a terrible dangerous condition ...they can only improve the situation....providing they don't tarmac obviously !

Yes the popular term for them is cobblestones but cobblestones were used to pave the older streets with rounded stones of different sizes. The nineteenth century innovation was to pave the streets with rectangular setts of a standard size.
