Looks like the big 'un beat the little 'un and had some in hand.
Saw these boats moored up in South Bramley Moor dock, which I presume are all dredgers? With most dock traffic going to Seaforth, these day's,I wouldn't have thought they would have much to do,but maybe the oil tankers at Elmsmere port, keep them busy!
Attachment 16400I sailed on the Sand Swan in 1989, she was old then. She is not designed to dredge docks. She is a suction dredger for agregates for the building trade. She goes out to sea to designated patches, by the Min of Ag & Fisheries, to dredge by a 100 foot pipe for sand and stone.
She is or was owned by Ready Mixed Concrete Co. the same company that owned the infamous BOWBELLE.
Hi Wsteve
The Oakgarth and all the other three vessels are Tugs belonging to the same company.
The Oakgarth was built in 1984 for RAEs, she is a Svitzer Tug as are the others, she is 452g tons IMO 8407711
just wondering if anyone else is going to see the queen victoria on monday ??
i think it's in about 9 ish, i've got a ticket booked on the ferry to go and meet her, and follow her back into dock.
very excited and camera batteries are charged and memory cards waiting to be filled.
if anyone is in area day or night, might be nice to have a walk down.
Enjoy, Malc x

Small vessel leaving the Sandon yesterday with a background of scrap mountains
...and the Wave Knight was in the news last year.... from Wiki...
On 18th April 2009, Royal Navy personnel operating from Wave Knight in the Gulf of Aden, managed to intercept and fend off two pirate attacks with its armament involving MV Handy Tankers Magic, and MV Front Ardennes. [1][2]
On 23 October 2009, personnel aboard Wave Knight witnessed the kidnapping by Somali pirates of two British citizens from the yacht Lynn Rival. They did not intervene for fear of causing casualties amongst the victims.[3] When giving a speech at Chatham House on 27th November 2009, First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope made his position on the crew's conduct clear, stating that "They do not appreciate, and I do not like them, being branded cowards".[4
Hi Joe,

The I O Man ferry,Manamman, leaving the pierhead in a choppy Mersey yesterday
Thanks, Joe. I believe I saw this thing docked at the Pier Head when I was last in Liverpool last year. Am I right in thinking from the shape of it that it is a car ferry? Or not.
Curious in Baltimore
Chris
It is a car ferry Chris, also foot passengers. There are a couple more of these on the I o M run, designed and made in Italy I think. It was cancelled today because of high winds. there was a bit of trouble a couple of years ago with jet skiers running underneath the twin hulls

Today I took a few pics of a few canal boats being built at Aintree boat builders.
My brother used to do the woodwork for these boats so I was able to have a little walk around.

What I find amazing is the amount of bricks they use to weigh these boats down.
I never knew they used bricks. :PDT11

Brothers and sisters, while my interests tend not to veer towards things maritime, it is impossible to live where I do and not notice the shipping trade, in particular the more notable vessels. My son recently introduced me to a website whereby I can, via sattelite, monitor the shipping on the river, in the docks, in fact anywhere on the coastline.
Some of the salts will know of this allready, but I find it an amusing way to while away the odd moment.
Good to see you out in your Kayak again,Joe!:unibrow:
