The Tivoli was on the corner of Garibaldi Street.
When the blocks were built I checked the maps and the site of the Tiv went through the right side of Cavour House and the left side of Garibaldi House (if that makes sense - I should have checked the compass points).

I always photo the pics in the library.
They've no objections (as long as you don't use flash), and I'm quite pleased with the Macro setting on my camera.

So, needless to say, this is a copy of one from the LRO.

Yep Phil, that's the one I got. Also a pic of the flats that were on Arkwright street in the background and further back again is the rear of the tenements on Scotland Road called Wilbraham House. Gerard was asking about photographing in the search room, don't they still ask you to sign a copyright disclaimer that the pics are for personal use only and not for publication.

You sign for the search room, so it may be included there.
Otherwise, I don't sign anything, but I think they assume that I know the rules.
I have been going there for almost 40 years! :)

(mind you, aren't the archiving/release for viewing of these photos pretty new?)

Some of the streets I asked for, they were physically making the folders up and counting the photos and recording the details on the front as I requested them, for instance, I think you were only the 3rd or 4th to have Rossy out last month.

They keep trying to make their photos more secure, but people still pinch them.
Some people go to the expense of getting laser copies, and then swopping them for the original glossies.

They're not making up the folders when they count them.
That's part of the security.
They are always counted before they're issued and after they're returned, but by the time they're checked the person's gone.

For instance, as good as that Roscommon cinema was, they used to have another close-up (when George Lowe had the building).
It was missing when I was there in January.
I've got a poor B & W photocopy of it, from years ago.

I lived in Arley Street in the Scotch Houses then onto the top block in Portland Gardens till 1954 also Dryden St, Limekiln Lane,Rachel St areas can be part of Liverpool were my fore Fathers lived how can i get the thumb nails up would love to see the photos and would be willing to send you the memories i have from my early days regards the areas above.

Arley Street Scotch houses that i'd previously posted up on another thread because Gerard's dad was born there. These were facing the Non Pareil pub.

You'll have seen the Portland Gardens ones earlier in this thread then. If you mean how do you see the full sized photo, just click on it. If you mean you have some you want to post up, scroll down and go into Manage Attachments then click browse and upload your pics from your p.c.

Wasnt there a building close to the baths called Arden House,a massive red brick job,owned by the Sally army? Used to put homeless men up,or is that imagination after all these years.I recall a Salvation Army band setting up by the Round Counter on Scottie road on Saturdays to collect money and spread their word.

This is one of my favorite photos by Martin Parr (taken in 1983), I've got a postcard of it hanging by my desk. It seems fairly mundane when you first look at it,with the girl skipping happily in the sunshine, then you notice the car parked on its side. Brilliant stuff.

Nancy, I was wondering why that car is parked like that. Err, I mean the blue one :unibrow:

Where can you get this magazine ?

It's free in a number of places in town, cafes, 08 place, Liverpool vision, conservation centre, library etc. There is an article on some things we shouldn't have done as a city too - the usual suspects though - ie - not demolished the Overhead, cotton exchange facade, customs house, sailors home, Exchange buildings, filled in the canal etc...

Thanks for those pics of my husbands birthplace.
He's going to be amazed at seeing the tennies again.
Hubby's family had moved there from under the bridge then onto Speke for bigger accomodation as the family grew.
l had school friends there too.

Kev, you're right. It's all excellent stuff :handclap:

It come sat a price though Lindy - my web hosting company contacted me last night and warned me that we are getting too much traffic on its present servers resulting in Yo! Liverpool using a disproportionate amount of sever resources in comparison to everyone else on the shared server! (where Yo! is stored etc...)

So it looks like an upgrade will be needed soon.
