I think a friend of mine bought them and done them up. He does it in a lot of towns and cities across the country. Why can't the council tart them up.

Money.
Listening to Radio Merseyside drive time on the way home, Claire Hamilton recapped what was discussed on the Roger Phillips phone-in today. First up, they replayed a number of calls made about that blokes letter. Apparently the station had emails too, one was mine defending my account. A woman and a bloke from Gerard Gardens rang in as did a fella who lived in St Oswalds Gardens, Old Swan from the 1940s recalling what a great community with long landings with people actually talking to each other and looking into the square, keeping an eye on their children. It appears that chap stirred a hornets nest and is very much in the minority, so much so that the idea it was a hoax/wind-up was mentioned.
Ged, Kate was so incensed, she has written a letter in reply to the Echo
Was she Mart, good on her. Yes Pablo there is an element in that it was probably the same for everyone, even streets and estates, you know open doors, dare not giving cheek etc, it just seems eccenuated in the confines of the squares. There was that many people you knew that you couldn't go far without seeing/talking to someone and getting involved in a game or something.
Yeah know what you mean Ged. Any back chat or mischief and it soon got back to your parents. That was a time when all the dads went to the pub every night. Looking back, it seemed a lot better then. Funny though, I seem to remember the old ones cursing and cussing us for our wanton behaviour. Some things never change.
On another though not dissimilar note. One caller rang in to ask, if he'd got it right that corporal punishment was stopped because it would learn kids to be aggresive and see that violence gets you your way. When Roger Phillips said yes, in a way, the caller then asked why society is so much more violent now then and put it down more to the lack of deterent as all the kids who are now so mamby pambied (As in no deterents in school), are much more likey to be violent that back when. Well you know the rest.
Dunno if the lack of corporal punishment is a bad thing. I was a beaten child when I was younger, even got beaten at school. I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone else. I think reasons for bad behaviour are a bit deeper than corporal punishment. There's also the break up of families to throw in the arguement. There seems to be a general breakdown of society.
Jeez, that reunion article has certainly stirred things up, 2 more letters in the echo last night - one for - one against and another scathing one tonight by all accounts. We're 3 -1 down at the mo, but it's not even half time yet - time for a comeback yet.
Ya wanna welcome the knockers Ged, that's all they got to do whinge. Make it a good night and have a pint for them.
Sorry I saw the word Knockers and thought this was about something else :unibrow:
My dad, uncles and Aunt lived in Kings Gardens and they loved it there.
So many people with fondness for the Tennies :PDT11
I lived in the outback close to farms, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz twas boring at times.
At least they gave credit to the organisers in yesterdays Echo. Why didn't u get in on the pic, Ged ?
Well that was one in the eye for the 'knockers' - It was an absolutely fabulous night with a full house any many more last minute scramblers for tickets sadly having to be knocked back as they'd reached the full quota for the hall.
The whiners should arrange for their own get togethers and see how many turn up? As for the 'being no community' back then - with standing room only and over 300 ex residents there - almost one person for every flat - need I say anymore. In fact little groups of some of these people already keep in contact with each other in the local pubs or the houses they're now in nearby.
I was made up seeing some people I hadn't seen for years - a great success.
Thats a couple of knockers you mentioned there Ged :handclap:
Made up it was a great success, any pics ?
Thanks Mart and yes, there'll be quite a few on my website, not even put them on the pc yet, still recovering yesterday - 3.15 am we got out of the club - hope I don't get them into trouble there.
300 people all having quite a few drinks .... :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
I suspect they'd like you there every week :unibrow:
Nice one Ged, made up for you and everyone else who attended.
Thanks Mart and Pablo, they don't do bad for do's in the Silvestrian though, I had to get back down for 9am on saturday to collect my kit as they had a wedding on. I only got in at 4am and was up at 8.30, then up for footy at 9 today so i'm gonna be knackered in an hour or two.
Zaps was asking for this one (amongst others) a few weeks ago.

It was cold on Wednesday night but the Hope St and Falkner Street eateries were packed and doing well out of what looked like some large works Christmas nights out.
Up the other end of Falkner St and around Canning Street and Percy Street, it was like time stood still except for the cars on view.
Ged - for some unknown reason your site can't be accessed on the computers in the library. When I click the link there is a page with 'Potential Policy Breach' and the City Council Liver Bird on it...:PDT_Xtremez_42:
I wonder if it's because it's operated by Piczo and it's a social networking site as I know certain companies block such sites and of course children go on those library computers?
Another 100+ b&w pics uploaded over the last couple of nights.
The home page will tell you where the latest uploads are to be found, the newest pics are obviously at the bottom of those pages so please scroll down.
A new post war b&w page (overspill) has been created as the other one got too full for any more uploads.
Please enjoy.
Its getting rather slow Ged,mainly because the amount of photies on one page...it takes an age to download.
Me thinks you're best adding individual pages ie Pre-war 1,2,3 ect.
Some people are still on Dial-up and yer know what that means? oh bother I can't be bothered. :unibrow:
I was thinking of arranging them into districts but the borders are too iffy, then post codes but realised that West Derby Road for instance is L6 and L13 and there's plenty more like that. Opens up quickly first time for me every time no matter whose house i'm in. The secret is, by the time the bottom lot of photos appear, you're still up at the top looking at those. Too much work to change it now I think. It lets you know when there's too many to a page as it won't let you upload any more.
You savvy with computers Ged? if a person has a poor graphics card this will evidently either slow down their comp or worse it will crash the computer due to much graphic content one page.
Thats why I offered to build you a new front page with links to cataloguing individual pages ie Pre-war Slums pages 1,2,3 the link would pop out and a tree link would give you "pre-war one"."Pre-war two".
No need to district or post code em.
Yes but I assume i'd still have to re-upload or transfer the pics to the newly created pages.
All you would have to do is transfer the photos on the website into folders name(example) pre-war one,pre-war two.
Are your photos in named folders on the website? I can easily find this out by looking at the page source but I just want to ask you.
Can you access the website to move/delete/rename folders, or do you just upload and leave it at that?
I have the bother of creating the links to the pages all you have to do is upload the pages and there's no need to upload the photos again as they're already there,so basically you might have to upload as many pages as say 14 or 15 pages which shouldn't take long.
no harm in letting George have a go at it for u, Ged :)
Ged, you can move or copy from one page to another...
come on, get it together will you, It's Christmas don't you know :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
I know you can transfer to another page but it would still be time consuming. I might do it when this site is down over Crimble. :PDT_Piratz_26:
Ged, I haven't seen the most recent update yet - but I'll be having a good look over it whilst I'm off for Christmas.
I've not any trouble with your site at all, but it sure is getting packed with images now.
Cheers Ross. One of my mates is on dial up and says his loads pretty quickly and he never has a problem waiting for my most loaded pages to appear.
Looking at it again, i'll probably leave it as it is. The new page on the post war images is now well into 100+ images already.
A poor graphics can't won't make a jot of difference when using the internet. It will only make what you are seeing at a smaller resolution or less colours.
Industry standard is now 2mb broadband and that's what people write their websites to adhere to so that even graphical heavy sites will have enough to function with. However, a poor graphics card is normally linked with little RAM in the PC and this will be due to the unstable nature.
Exley St off Low Hill. Zaps once asked for pics of this street so that's two on here now.
