Yesterday a plaque was unveiled by the lord mayor (Steve Rotheram) and Debz (Author of the Fastest selling Liverpool Local History book and my partner) in memory of the legendary Liverpool Boxer Dom Volante.
Here's a piece from today's Liverpool Echo...
And here's a photo of Debz,The Lord Mayor and Paolo Grassi with the Dom Volante trophy and plaque.

Cheers Chris.:PDT11 I forgot to mention that Paolo Grassi is the guy who made the plaque and the Hillsborough Memorial Eternal Flame. :handclap:
Great! :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
There is quite a substantial Italian community here in Baltimore. Older Italian immigrants play bocci (a counterpart to English lawn bowling) in the Little Italy neighborhood of East Baltimore. The Little Italy here features a number of popular restaurants. Two mayors of Baltimore in the 1950's and 1960s were Italians named D'Alesandro, father and son, and Nancy Pelosi, the current speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, a congresswoman from San Francisco, California, is a D'Alesandro from Baltimore.
All the best

Due to the success of the book and selling out completely, the book is going to be reprinted but it will be a revised edition.
More details when I have them.
We would like to once again thank all those who made this possible and to all those who bought the book.Plus a big thanx to our Kev for the use of his forum.:PDT11
THANK YOU ALL.
Great News :handclap:
Well done to Debz. I've got the book of course but noticed it in the Anglican Cathedral bookshop on Sunday. :handclap:
I enjoyed the first book. One of my pics in there :)
Very interesting read. Well done Debz.
Great to see local authors doing well. Little Italy was part of Liverpool's rich tapestry and should continue to be celebrated.
Wait till you see the improved up-to-date "gone real fancy" one. And there's another book she's doing with two famous L/Pool authors. Just wish she'd write something along the lines of a Harry Potter book and get us rich rich rich:unibrow:
I was asked to supply a new and better pic of myself Zaps. Such a thing doesn't exist and you can make of that what you will ;)

I know these Marble Mosaic Layers (terrazzo) people on the left were Emanuel and Charles or William Monti. My GGrandfather was called Michele Federico Capaldi.
Any help is apreciated.
Jamie Capaldi
Capo, I can't help you with the above, but a few months ago I was in Anfield cemetery and noticed this..don't know if it's of any use.
Thank you for this Dave. This is another bit of help, to piece together my puzzle!
Good post Dave. Capo..I will get her indoors to have a peek at this later and see if she can come up with anything for ya. :PDT11
Cheers Pal!
Hi Jamie this is Zaps BETTER half! my name is Debra D'Annunzio and I'm the author of a local history book called Liverpool's Italian families. On the front cover of my book is pictured Fiorinda Capaldi who dated my uncle Dominic during the 60's and lived above Capaldi's shop in Kensington. I have seen the picture you are talking about many times and most Italian's say it is a group of Italian workers from Diespekers in Liverpool working on a Manchester building. Hope this helps a little and if you have any info about the picture i would love know the who and where finally!!!
Debz
Hello Debra,
Thank you for your reply.
I know the Capaldi's you are on about in Kensington. My knowledge of my Capaldi line in Liverpool ran Capaldi's Cafe/Milk Bar in Smithdown rd. It was my GGrand Uncle Alessandro Capaldi, and his Wife - Fiorinda Colacicco.
Also my GGrand Uncle Orazio Capaldi married Maria Grazia Innelli, who's mother was Francesca Lucia Volante - Brother to Vincenzo and cousin to Dom Volante.
My Ggrandfather Michele was a Marble Mosaic Layer, based in Bristol, but travelled to London, Liverpool and Manchester, etc. to work his skills with other Italian professionals.
In the picture he looks a spitting image of my Gramps, and would like to know if it was his Dad.
If i find out anymore, i will let you know.
I don't suppose you know a way i could contact the people who post their stories on 'scotties press', do you?
Thanks Jamie
Hi Jamie
My great Aunt Maria Grazia D'Annunzio married Vincenzo Volante (Dom Volante's Parents)!!! I recently spoke to the Capaldi's who run the grocery store in Fenwick Street and found out the Capaldi's come from the same village as the D'Annunzio's and Volante's Atina which is just outside Cassino...but you probably already know all this:) I spent a lot of time with the then editor of the Scottie Press Ron Formby whilst writing my book but he has since left, however you can e-mail the web site or just pop in when your in the area, they are very welcoming and always eager to help. If i come across anything regarding the Capaldi family i will let you know Jamie.
