Good pic (again)GD. :handclap:
First, thanks to Joe for treating us to these wonderful images of Liverpool streets. Keep up the good work, Joe.
Re the topic of cobblestones versus setts see here what Mr. Google says on the subject:
setts versus cobbles
Some of the sites are for firms who will create paths or roads with cobbles or setts. The discussion on Wikipedia looks to be pretty good too.
All the best
Chris
The trouble with using the more correct term "Setts" is that it tends to sound awkward in a sentence. For example: "I walked down the cobbled street" as compared with: "I walked down the setted street".
Or does someone know a better way of expressing it?

North John Street in 1908 then in 2011, A bit more horsepower now
Brill comparison Joe. One looking North and one looking South with original road widths still intact as there's quite a few around now that are not.
I know this is a long shot, but is there anyone out there who might have a picture of Cawdor st, Liverpool 8.
Say from the sixties or seventies. Before I finish, Kingsley rd flats which were opposite Cawdor st.

Lord Street and Church Street
Top one in 1908, bottom yesterday 2011, Not many hats today
Interesting that Blacklers is where BHS is now, hope that's not market stalls in Lord St (on the right of the picture)thought the council were getting rid of them after they ruined Church St for years. Market stalls belong in markets not as permanent fixtures on the main street. I am sure there is spare land just around the corner that they could pitch their stalls on, or that the traders pay the same rent and rates that the shops are paying.
Yes, there are stalls on Lord st Doris. There are some along Whitechapel too.
Great then and now Joe. :handclap:

Victoria Street and Crosshall Street crossing in 1949 then yesterday 2011
The trams may now be considered "green" and trendy, but you have to admit all of those overhead wires and poles do look ugly...
Thanks for the pics.
At first I thought those might have been planes in the 1949 photo but soon realised they are part of the overhead wires needed for the trams. Good work, Joe.

And Manchester Street again yesterday 2011
Thanks, Joe. I bought a second-hand Pentax from a shop on Manchester Street in 1967. Interesting to observe that the bobby on point duty seems to be supporting himself with a cane.
I think he must be an upper rank policeman as they carried sticks Chris, maybe giving the pc a break.
Excellent photo's GD. Very good. :handclap:
