By the way my schhools where Banks rd and Gilmour Heath rd also a few memories of Bankhall it was hard to get in the club in the 50s i remember having to go and see the vicar in Horrocks avenue to see if me and a mate could go along i could go on. :) John Davis

A couple of photos of phase 2 of the archeological excavation of the old mill site opposite St Michael's church. What seems to be happening is that the thick concrete raft, laid when the site was used as a metalurgical works by Blackwell's, is being removed to give more access to the site.

They have shifted a lot of earth there over the last few days, I wonder what they have uncovered?

Don't know. I'll have to ask. It looks as if the site is getting near to being redeveloped with new housing.

Anyone know the origins of the old billiard table that was found in the green hut near Long Lane Park. See attached article from the Garston News

What ever happened to the leather tanning factory in Garston. It had a strange smell !

Just been closed down. It seems most of our shoes etc are made abroad and don't need British leather.

welcome john,its nice to be in touch with old garstonians.I drink in the dealers mainly,but i do have a pint in the mariners/george/queens as well from time to time.who were your old schoolmates john??..my family has been in garston 150 years,so i might know some of your old friends.I could always pass a message on for you...regards...allan oakes...:handclap:

Thanks for your reply Alan.Just to give you a few old mates from Garston Kenny Parry(Chesterton St)who's well known on the Liverpool music scene,Melvyn Corry (Ottway St),Roy Jones(Lincoln St)Eric Bushell(Chesterton St)my coisin Carl Ludo(York St)who was a bit of a lad,little David Smith (Chesterton St)who i think commited suicide,Peter Okell(Neptune St).I lived in Chesterton St until !962 and before that Thomas St off Kings St we were all street wise kids but i can't think of any of us getting up to any real trouble we were that knackered at night after playing football on top park for 2 hours each way and also when the 66 bus had it's terminal in Window lane(opposite the Clarence)if we asked the conducter nicely he would let us go to Halewod and back which was like another world to us, that couldn't happen today either the conductor would be seen as a paedo for befriending two ten year olds and of course health and safety.Good health John.::

It will be available at the Society's stand at St George's Hall, Liverpool over the 3 days of the " Big History Show" local history exhibition and conference, September 14th to 16th inclusive.
