I only just noticted today that this pub has gone !! When did it become a betting shop !! ?
Just last week.
A very sad sight to see the Cabbage Hall like this.
Just having a little rant here, but it was always the 'better' pub of Anfield, and in days gone by was quite select. I remember when (apart from busy match days) the regular customers were older couples having a quiet drink, and the type that had their seats in the same place .. heaven forbid if you sat in anyones place ! :) It was the pub that your aunty and uncle went to, or your grandad with his pipe and newspaper. :)
It was the pub you'd take visitors to for a drink locally - the other local pubs being more 'rough around the edges' - the Cabbage was always a nice pub.
During the last few years it started to go.. shall we say a bit more down market - ie, the usual thing happened - which has happened all over Liverpool - that riff raff got in there and gradually started to ruin a nice pub. :PDT_Xtremez_12: I've seen it happen to so many places.
Anyway, to see the Cabbage Hall tinned up like this is unthinkable to Anfield residents. People have lived here for generations and it's never been known for that pub to be closed down.
Shame :(
Perhaps this tin is a sign that the placed has been moth-balled and not set for destruction. :)
They had framed old pics of liverpool up on the walls inside too.
When my father-in-law finally pops his clogs (he's 81) we expected to have his wake at The Cabbage, as his family have always done.
Dunno where we'll go now. He was here last week and told me about The Cabbage. I nearly blurted out 'that's your wake up the swanee, then'.
And I thought they were renovating it

I'm sure he paints his lense before taking the shot,Ged. :)
Great picture of the Hawthorne Greg's Dad!! Thanks!!
We have a family link to the Hawthorne, as we think that our Granddad came over from Ireland in the early 1900s, and worked as a barman there.
There are four other pubs mentioned in family legends, and I wondered if anyone has got any information and or photos of these pubs please:
The ‘Albion’ at 340 Great Howard Street
The ‘Baltic Fleet’ in Wapping
The Brittania - 13 Scotland Road
2 Kirkdale Road - which I think was the ‘Lambert’. Google Street view seems to suggest that it was opposite the old Hamlet at 1 Kirkdale Road and on the other corner of Boundary Street East from the - still standing - Hamlet on Scotland Road
The 'Boundary Vaults' in Boundary Road. I know that there are a few 'Boundary Vaults' but not in Boundary Road
The ‘Brass Bars’ - we have a photo (I have no idea of how to insert it here!) of a Pub around 1928 that has part of the name high up on the wall. It was the “??????? Towers'. It has a lot of brass bars at the front and we know it as it the ‘Brass Bars’. I've found a Pub called the Brass Bars on Copperas Hill, but I'm not sure if this is the same place, as I never heard talk of Copperas Hill.
39 Mill Street
68 Pitt Street
The ‘Trojan Vaults’
I know that I really do need to get down to the Records Office but, meanwhile, has anyone got any information and or photos of these pubs please

I meant NINE pubs, not four. Sorreeee!
Since the Peacock actually has a Liver Bird over it's painted sign - did it have an earlier name with Liverpool in it?

Thanks oudeis, ged and gregs dad. I'm working my way through these websites!!
Hiya just been looking at all the pubs . Not many left now . My mum worked in the glebe for 15/20 Years and loved every day . XXXXX
Thanks again for the great websites Oudeis, Ged and Gregs Dad. I have found photos of the Baltic Fleet and the Hawthorne, but nothing else.
So, if thee are no photos, can anyone help with any memories of the Britannia at 13 Scotland Road/corner of Alexander Pope Street; or the Lambert at 2 Kirkdale Road/corner of Boundary Street East, or the Albion at 240 Great Howard Street/corner of Blackstone Street?
Has anyone ever heard of the Trojan Vaults or the Worlds End?
Or of a Boundary Vaults in Boundary Road??
Can anyone identify 39 Mill Street or 68 Pitt Street as Public Houses. I don't have any directories.
Would be grateful of any information
Thanks
