Anyone know what happened to the 'Tiled Mural' that was on the wall of the 'old' Shakespeare pub in Williamson Sq?
It was a scene from Merchant of Venice, where Portia is challenging Shylock to take his pound of flesh without spilling a drop of blood of Antonio.
Is this the 'Eldonian' on the left in this LRO shot............

That's the Glass house on the left Dave.
Cheers Ged. It's just that the brickwork and door location looked similar to the one in Zappa's pic earlier in the thread
Dave, see post 1246 for it in it`s new coat of paint
Thanks for that GD.
Anyone know if the building was originally built for business use or was it residential.
While I'm being nosey, what's the story with the fancy building with the balconies
The buildings with the balconies was a proto type made at Cobbs Quarry in 1901-3 and transported down prefabricated (the first in the country) under the charge of John Alexander Brodie. I think there's a thread on them on here somewhere.
The complete build is on the L R O online catalogue in pics,Dave
Thanks Ged and GD
Still, no one with any idea what the pub on the right of the pic' was called, etc???? I haven't found anything, other than a previous streetmap posted on here, which just states P.H.(public house?),on that corner!

Violence and drug taking in Woolton Village pub.
I find this quite depressing :( Woolton, especially Woolton Village, has always been such a lovely place. The low life have been creeping in for some time like a disease. :PDT_Xtremez_12: It's horrible how nice places are ruined :(

The Village Inn pub in Woolton falls under spotlight after violence and drug-taking claims
May 14 2010 by Luke Traynor, Liverpool Echo
CAMERAS are to be installed in the toilets of a Liverpool pub to stop customers taking drugs.
The Village Inn in Woolton fell under the spotlight yesterday following allegations of violence and cocaine use.
Police highlighted five incidents which have happened at the Quarry Street premises since Christmas.
In the early hours of December 25, a man was assaulted outside leaving him with bruising and broken teeth.
Officers were called to the scene and a number of people were arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour.
On February 10, police received intelligence that drinkers were inside the Village Inn taking drugs.
Just over three weeks later, on March 5, officers went with a drugs dog and found three people in possession of cocaine.
They were arrested.
Five days later on March 10, the female designated premises supervisor (DPS), the person effectively running the pub, was arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour.
And most recently, on May 2, a man was knocked unconscious inside the Village Inn , suffering a chipped tooth and needing four stitches.
Yesterday, a review hearing took place before Liverpool councillors to examine the pub’s licence.
The DPS, who began her job in August, was allowed to remain in post and the panel also ruled against the police’s wish to reduce opening hours to 11pm.
However, they approved a move to install cameras in the toilet area to try and deter people taking drugs.
Police said the last complaint relating to the Village Inn was back in April 2008.
Sgt Peter Howells said: “We will now try and work with the DPS and pub management to ensure the premises meets the licensing objectives for crime and disorder.”
My old fave match day haunt 'The Wharf' on Merton Road too. The old corner local is increasingly becoming a thing of the past.
The steel sheets were coming down on the Coach & Horses Woolton this afternoon. It's been shutted for about a week.
The Village went down the nick when it changed hands. It seems the new 'owners' have just come back from running a bar in Spain.
