Great first post. I do remember a Tithebarn, that's possibly it. There was also the Thatcher where we played but I think it's gone now. It looks like the pub sign is on the high rise blocks.
The sign does look as though it's on the flats... and I've done a bit of research this week and the Village was the Tithebarn originally.Quote:

The Justice was situated on the corner of Dale Street and Hatton Garden and named after the nearby courts. Since its demolition a car park has existed on that corner.

My dad drank in The Coronation between 1964 and 1979. Me and my dad played bowls for the Coronation in the early 70s. Sorry to see it closed. It was always a friendly pub until around 1975 when a certain family moved into the area and things took a down turn. Within a few years, lots of the old regulars moved off to The Cat's Whiskers which was always a very well run pub, the Fiveways or The Bridge Inn. Saturday nights in the bar were always good. An old fashioned 'sing-song' and people playing darts and dominoes.
Because of this family who, along with their associates, brought nothing but trouble to the pub, me and the old feller gave the place a miss.
I once heard it was built in the 1930s just in time for the coronation of 1937, hence the name, although the pub sign had George V painted on it. It was supposed to have been one of those large 'road house' type pubs of the period, but in 'A Pub on Every Corner' it says it was built in the 1950s. I would say it had more of the 1930s look to the place. A bit more Art Deco than the 1950s but someone must know. As for Belle Vale, until the late 60s it was a prefab estate with no reputation for trouble. That only happened when the new buildings went up in the 70s.

The Liverpool Branch of the British Motorcycle Riders Club met in there for a while, long since disbanded I'm talking 1980's of course.
When working till 9pm, I used to have to get the bus along Walton Road/ County Road. Anyhow whilst on the bus, you could see into these pubs from on top of the bus. These pubs were virtually empty midweek. I mean, maybe 1 or 2 people in the bars. I used to think how do these pubs manage to survive. It must not be very cost effective. No wonder so many local pubs are shutting down.

All the pubs in our area are still open, with the exception of the Cygnet which appears to have closed. Perhaps we're all just drinkers here in the Swan ('cept me of course).
