Hello Lindylou.
The place I am refering too was only small and was on the site of the K F C at the top of Edge Lane, it definitly had the name William's toffee on the front but I dont know if it was still opererating as such.
I am going back to the late 70's now.

That shop was less than 50 yards from where Martin used to live in Fitzgerald and is still there now although it's hasn't been used as a shop for years. I think Hassan who had the shop still lives there.
Fitzgerald Road is a couple of roads away from where I live. I remember the shop being opened, I think it shut about 10 years ago. However, I passed there a couple of weeks ago and I thought it had opened up again. Perhaps there was just some work going on.

The people who used to afford us that luxury " Marje and George Strain" looked after the locals and let them have credit, as it was in the "olden days" ( 1970's). A Couple of years ago, who should move in next door to me but Marje and George Strain. Lovely people who "looked" after the local communty. Yes, women did insist on keeping their bush trimmed. I do know some women who continue being on their hands and knees though i'm not too sure if was to keep the doorstep scrubbed.

I don't Spike unfortunately, it never said. I wonder if it's still there, notice the patio doors leading out onto the balcony. How the posh snobs of the Swan lived ey, I have pics on my site of the same year with people in damp squalid courts.

The shop/house in Fitzgerald Rd was owned by Pop Hewitt and his son John
when I lived in the the Prefabs off Wharncliffe Road I left in 1961.My friend
Mike Healy lived Opposite, Alan Dennett lived 5 doors away,and a couple of friends lived in Orleans Road. There was another shop further up Ravenswood towards Derby Lane this was Salts chippy.At the bottom of Sunbeam another shop was called Postuma's.
The shop at the bottom of Sunbeam stood empty for years. About two years ago it had its front rebuilt and is now a house.

The pics on the first page brought back such memories. When I was a kid right through until I was about 20 we went to my Grandparent's house many Sundays for family dinner. 10 Baden Road. My mother was born and grew up in that house and my grandparents lived there until they died.
