Look forward to that Mart. I believe JB is smitten and marriage could be on the cards. Anything to get those other 3 albums. :)
Shhhhhh  ( whisper, whisper )
Was the cakeshop Clooks, not Cooks? My uncle did electrical work etc for them. Not sure if they had a few shops around L`pool.
My family had printing shop, John Donald`s, in Old Swan, where Pet shop is/was -near Post Office opp Tesco.
I lived in Gordon Drive,Knotty Ash, 1947-1960. Anyone remember the grass tennis courts in Springfield Park, alongside East Prescot Road railings.
I will ask my family if they have any old pics.
I was prompted by JMLE to take a few pics of the exposed Tram Lines on St Oswalds recently, as there were roadworks going on..... heres a few

Anyway, they did leave a small piece.....

It was my fault for not telling you earlier that 3 full lengths of track were exposed.
Sowwy.
I thought they were tramlines that they dug up on St Oswalds Street, but wasnt sure.
Well, Well, Well.
After me searching for nearly TWO years for a copy of "SuperSwan", a film of the Old Swan Festival in 1976, our very own Colin Wilkinson has done the business with his colleague Dave.
It was originally placed with the LRO and mysteriously ended up in the BFI in London.
Dave went down there and brought it home :PDT11
Filmed in 1976 it shows scenes around Old Swan and focuses on the Street Theatre, Doric Road Park activities, Prescot Road, some Street Parties and around the Flats on St Oswalds St. It lasts approx 1/2 hour and brings back so many memories for me.
Thanks to Colin for "sorting" it out. Colin and his colleague Dave were involved in the filming of this event and do have copies for sale if anyone is interested.
If you are interested, see the link to my website below and there are details on there.
Thanks Colin and Dave :handclap:
Well done Colin, Dave and Mart for persuing this so vigorously.
Got the World Premier tonight !
30 people turning up hopefully sell some for Colin and Dave.
I have had a sneak preview and even got some screen shots...
Three Star Jumper halfway up his back....
Deffo a hand me down from his older bro is that :)
Did you find yourself in it then?
No, we were around the 15 yr age group so getting on film or following the Theatre was a no no,
smoking around the back entry is where we'd be :ninja:
Film show went very well, thanks for asking :PDT10
Looks like Dot Cotton in pic' no'1!:unibrow: Well done Martin!

Mart

That film is really good - I'm sure I recognised a couple of people. Loved those women in the football kits........with tights on???
Thanks for posting.
ha,ha, I'm sure I recall ladies wearing tights to play footy :D

Brilliant film :handclap: the music makes it too :)
Those 70's fashions! I remember the check jackets - everyone wore them, both men and women.
The guy coming out of the shop at the start of the film - he's a real 70's guy! :)
Peter Shiels did me a trailer ... and I likes it :PDT_Aliboronz_24:

Well impressed Mart and Sheilsy and well done to Colin for making it in the first place.
Hello Mart! Just watched your film on youtube, Brill ! (I dont think you should have let Ged pull that cart round the streets in his underpants though.
Only kidding Ged, I know they are not your underpants, you borrowed them from Mart !
I have fond memories of Costigans in the Swan. I loved the smell of leather and metal and taking the sterry bottles back for a penny.
Spent many a long time in the library then walking down to the Bon Bon for sweets.
Hi Folks
I don't seriously think the image on this early twentieth century postcard I have just bought on ebay is really of Old Swan but it's interesting nonetheless, paricularly because of the local postmark and address. If anyone knows where the scene might actually be, though, I would be interested to know!
Cheers

Hi Chris, the pic is a Lakeland Castle - NOT Old Swan !
But the address, Tuebrook is around the corner from Old Swan

Mart
Hi Mart
While I might be a South Ender I was fairly certain the view on the picture side of the postcard could NOT be Old Swan. Thanks for the tip on the location of the Tuebrook address. Note also that the Edwardian era postmark is Old Swan. :)
Cheers

Not sure if anyone answered this one. Knotty Ash terminus was situated on the old part of East Prescot Road prior to its straightening, so this would have been taken from the pavement where the Greyhound roundabout is now, Aldi would be to the right and the Council Office to your immediate left. There were about 10 premises in front of the Mill Yard, one was definitely a sweet shop.
I remember that tram and the buses parked in Green lane way back towards the end of 1970 on my very last trip ( we have a singer called John Farnham when he was going to retire he called his album THE LAST TIME and he's still going same as me my last trip started in feb '70 to Nov '70) to liverpool before I left to come to Rockingham WA as I thought I'd never see Liverpool again I saw it again in 1974 ( for 6 week's) then 1980 for 18 month's
For anyone around Old Swan 28th April - 1st May
Pride In Liverpool - Old Swan - Community Festival - All sorts going on in Tesco's Car Park, Doric Rd Park and along Swan Row Shops ( between Red House and Masons ) 28th April - 1st May. Red House has details on posters in window for more info
