To me its just a bland 60s shoping center, with flats on top very much like bootle strand. If it had been built, am sure it would now be as bad the strand. nothing to inspire anyone there, unless you like photos of smack-heads.Quote:

Be interesting to see what the impact is upon the rest of the city centre and if it pans out once the party is over. Would also have been nice to have seen more Liverpudlian labour employed in its construction.

it's a great car park actually. lots of CCTV and very light and airy. I'm sure lone females in particular will feel very safe using it.
I've got to nip into Debenhams on the way to my Nans tomoz so I can always nip in Qpark and have a look.

All day £8 isn't bad considering how much you could pay to park in a City Centre. Quite impressed with how cheap they are to be honest!
true, especially considering the security in there. you can actually see the security room with the guard sitting in there watching the screens. good deterrent that. plus each level seems to have at least 1 guard wandering about from what I saw and there's CCTV cameras everywhere.Quote:

Was in the passenger seat of a friends car yesterday and we took a trip from Upper Parly Street along the Dock Road to get to Bootle and I wanted to see what the new Liverpool One building would look like from this side as I've not seen it at that angle.
What a bloody eyesaw. It takes up all of one side of the road and detracts from looking left at the Albert Dock buildings. It's as ugly as sin, doesn't fit in when you are faced with the 3 Graces in the same eye scan and will date terribly in 10 years.
The whole road seems darker as a result and it just looks totally out of place.

It was rather rough, and I seem to remember a murder.

The pub was the Triton Philip and was where we had a few, over the road from my wedding reception in the moat house in 1988. We also used to go in it as part of our Paradise street pub crawl now and again which included the Beehive, the Eagle and the hotel bar.
It was my cousin Ronnie James who was murdered there. He was landlord of the 5th Ave pub (formerly the Triton). He was attacked and killed by a burgler after closing time. My cousin's wife and 3 year old child were upstairs in the living quarters when it happened. The local news was full of it at the time - and for quite a while there were whole pages and double page spreads about the murder - my cousin Ronnie's face seemed to be everywhere you looked. The burgler was eventually arrested and put in prison. I can see his face now - and we won't forget that face.
the Pub was closed for some time while police and forensics were in there.
I remember when a new manager took over and he was interviwed about how it felt to take over a pub where there was such a brutal murder.
My cousin died in a struggle fighting for his life - he was a 6 ft guy and no pushover, he had fought back. He was stabbed numerous times in this vicious attack.

THE man behind Liverpool ONE today begged people not to drag the shopping development into the same mire as the rest of the city.
Grosvenor boss Rod Holmes attacked the filth blighting parts of the city saying it could undermine the success of the £1bn retail centre.

S h i t happens, as they say. Busy crowded places generate a degree of rubbish as a matter of course, including Mr Holme's precious Liverpool One. Perhaps he should fork out for for a few more cleaners if he's so upset by the dirty Scousers. Cheeky b a s t a r d.
I believe a whole new load of bins are scheduled for there after complaints. Where there's fast food outlets, there'll be rubbish - he can't have it both ways, at least it means the masses are there and probably not all scousers.

Liverpool is one of THE worst cities in the UK for litter and that includes from 'scousers'. The council is hell bent on trying to keep the city clean against a tidal wave of people who just don't seem to care. The council spent over a quarter of a million last year just trying to pick up gum. Money that could have been better spent on services.
This man is not from Liverpool and yet he is trying to make your city a better, more attractive place. He has pride in your city. Where is your pride in your city? In the gutter?
Grow up, accept the criticism and do something about it. Complain and shout. Make it unacceptable. Moan at people when they drop stuff, don't moan at people who try to change the city for the better.

Well, I'm a born and bred Scouser and I love the city with a passion but I absolutely detest the litter. I'm embarassed by it and the city could show off it's beauty so much more if mindless idiots didn't keep disposing of their rubbish all over the city. I really hope this campaign against the litter helps because last Saturday Williamson Square was filthy and I'd hate Liverpool One to turn into a grot spot, we should have pride (afterall aren't scousers meant to be known for their pride) and try to keep the city a wonderful, inviting place. It's simple with me, if I have a piece of rubbish and there's no bin in sight or the nearest is full, I keep hold of it and put it in the next bin I come across or take it home.
Btw, Lindy, I'm so sorry to hear aout your cousin. May he rest in peace and my thoughts go to you and all the family.

Well I've just looked at all the pictures, and there's nothing that I haven't seen in a dozen other shopping centres. There's nothing that makes it uniquely Liverpool.
I'm rather reminded of Pevsner's comments about an "architectural zoo" - let's have one of everything, and no concept of context, or sensitivity.

Couldn't agree more! What makes it unique above all else is that it isn't a shopping centre as such. It is a redevelopment of a huge part of the city centre which incorporates the existing road layout. There is no big roof that covers it all and all the buildings are individually designed, some by world class architects. As you say, how many ' shopping centres ' can you name with a park in the middle of it? Job extremely well done!:handclap:Quote:
