I know it's disgraceful isn't it? considering all the work being done along Hanover Street it's being left to rot. The council have a cheek having a go at landlords for letting their properties go into disrepair and yet they allow their own buildings to go like this.
as much as I love my city and tell everyone I know how great it is, it's going from COC to COCk up.
...........
It's a disgrace that it has been left like that.
everbody loves the Neptune because it's a homely theatre. I've seen loads of great shows there over the years.
Just in case Philip still looks in.

This page is part of a very good website I found linked from the scottie press.
Opened 1772.
Rebuilt 1803 with the curved facade.
Closed as a theatre in 1880.
In 1884 the interior was converted into a circus, and travelling circus companies used the building until it finally closed in 1889.
The building had been put up for sale in 1885, but was withdrawn because the highest bid was only £7,000.
Liverpool Corporation later bought the premises for £23,000, only to sell it to the Liverpool Pure Ice Co., Ltd., for £10,800 in 1889.
It was demolished in 1971.
There's a great photo here:

Thanks for that great information, Philip. :handclap:

Here is the interior from the stage just after the disastrous fire in 1986.
Note how the steel girders have softened with the heat and fallen down.
This is the first time I've ever shown one of these photos and it has to be this way.
is that the same place as the Pivvy Bingo Hall is now?
The same location. However the current bingo hall is no doubt practically a different building,as Philip's pix show that the fire virtually destroyed the original building.
Dave.
Neptune Theatre was open today. Filming 'Nowhere Boy'. I couldn't see much, though.
