Liverpool One [Paradise Street] Shopping Area [Under Construction]

It's hard to believe it's the same architect (Cesar Pelli) who designed this group in front of the World Trade Center.

Good post. Hit the nail on the head. The city is moving towards the river and dock waterways which will leave Lime St station on the city centre outskirts. Lewis' store will still be in the centre however isolated somewhat. What will save it is having its own entrance into Central underground station.

The Strand has to be done away with when running through the city centre. Inner city urban motorways are not needed - an idea from the 50-60s that still lingers. Cars should be relegated in favour of pedestrians and rail transport.

But!! The idea is to make the centre bigger, not just move its boundaries. The centre may have a number of sub-centres: Hardman St area for pubs/clubs, Matthew St & Albert Dock for the same. Shopping all over really, with a move to Albert Dock/Paradise St

The centre should adopt a triangle shape with the longest side the river/dock waterways.

That largest group of buildings philip is reminiscent of a block of apartments over the la paz nightclub in Praia de rocha on the Algarve. I'll try and find a photo.

MORE big changes are planned to city centre roads to help shoppers get to the new Liverpool One Paradise Street shopping district. continues....

Well, I've just spent 2 hours walking around The Trafford Centre (it was crap and stunk from the sewage works near by), happy in the knowledge that once the PSD opens, you won't want to go anywhere else!

I was having a drink in the Pumphouse yesterday and you couldn't help but imagine how amazing it's going to look from there.The new tower by Cesar Pelli was looking great and old landmarks like St Johns Beacon,the Graces,The Albert Dock and the Anglican were superb all lit up.Just wait until the new museum/Mann Island blocks are up,it's going to be brilliant.:PDT_Aliboronz_24:

Grosvenor lines up fashion boutiques for Peter's Lane

Grosvenor is in talks with fashion boutique retailer Arrogant Cat to open its first store outside London and the South East at Liverpool One.

A deal to bring Arrogant Cat to a 1,200 sq ft unit in the upmarket Peter's Lane part of Liverpool One is understood to be one of several in solicitors' hands and set to be formally announced in the coming weeks.

Grosvenor recently revealed that the first phase of 70 shops on Paradise Street and South John Street and two department stores will open on May 29, 2008.

The developer is targeting specialist fashion retailers to take the smaller units on Peter's Lane, typically from 600 sq ft to 2,500 sq ft. Peter's Lane will open in September 2008 along with the leisure element of the £950m, 43-acre scheme.

The retail lettings team is also in talks with Reiss for 2,000 sq ft on Peter's Lane, its second outlet in the city. Reiss owns the freehold on its Mathew Street store and will continue trading there.

Handbag retailer Radley is close to signing for Peter's Lane for a standalone store as well as its existing concession in John Lewis.

Talks are also ongoing with a G Star franchisee, the brand currently has concessions in selected Liverpool stores.

The 1.6m sq ft scheme, anchored by John Lewis and Debenhams, is currently 75 per cent let by floor area and Grosvenor expects there to be only half a dozen vacant units by May. These may be held back for retailers that it would like to secure but who may want to see the shops open before deciding.

Letting agents on Liverpool One are Tushingham Moore, Cushman & Wakefield and Strutt & Parker.

All parties declined to comment.
