I worked in Tate and Lyle's in the mid 70s and often went boozing round the Scottie Road area with the blokes I worked with, most of them lived around the refinery. One pub they often mentioned was Effin' Nelly's, which was round the Limekiln Lane area I think and was so named because of a previous manageress. I can't remember if we ever went in there or not but can anyone remember where it was and what was it's real name. Still makes me laugh whenever I think of it.
I don't remember the proper name of 'effin nellies' it was behind the multi story flats on Vauxhall Rd/Blenheim St. opposite the Shell station that was there in the 70's.
She used to come in the garage to 'phone her orders in because her 'phone was cut off and she was on a cash only basis with the brewery, that was in '71/'72 when i worked down there for a short while.:002:
Ged or Gerard will probably know the proper name.
Sorry no pic as yet
But the Belmont pub corner of Belmont Road and Wesr Derby Road. An old drinking hole of mine in the 60s.
Will try and get a pic soonest.

The Swan in Fleet Street does a nice pint and is very friendly too.
Thanks Ged for the photo of Effin' Nelly's. I didn't realise it was the Tatlock. Gone now I suppose?
I was looking at a picture of The Victoria in Great Howard St further back - it was usually called The Irish House. Cracking pint and the cleanest glasses I've ever seen in a pub. It was great for the 2-10 shift in Tates, we usually had our quota in by about nine and could leave someone to clock us out then sneak out the gate and head down there. The Fly House was too close but okay on nights when there was no foremen round.
