Well said.
My thoughts exactly.
So Ringo isn't as gushing as Paul McCartney.
Neither were John and George, who never came back to Liverpool.
BTW, I shop in Somerfield, Park Road, but not through choice.

no you are absolutly correct but i did not start this thread to **** the beatles as i think they were amazing (well three of them). My gripe is the way that ringo did not go out his way to give liverpool any good publicity when he is part and a quite major part at that of the celebrations. Still i am sure he will make some good money out of this city which he is happy to moch infront of millions of people on tv. But what i am forgetting of coarse is that is not his fault it is all Johnathan Ross's fault. Actually what am i moaning about Liverpool is ****e, and if i could i would leave asap so if there is anyone out there thinking of coming to the city don't it's crap, we all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine. (of coarse that is just friendly scouse humour!)
Not many yellow submarines in Huyton. I can understand why you are upset. Come down to the Dingle and I will hire one out to you.
sorry steven i didn't know that you had to live in the city centre to talk about yellow submarines. i will have to get rid of everything to do with the beatles or liverpool that i own as i don't live in da dingle
Wow upset in Huyton!
I think he was just referring to this mate?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/conte...rine_360.shtml
if i realy thought that why would i start this thread, and if that was what ringo was trying to do then fair enough but it isn't just me that has took it the wrong way is it, and if people from this city can take it wrongly then i am sure that people from other places in the country can, and do you think that, that is a good thing. he should have been a little bit more savy about it. i haven't come on here to argue with people, and so what if i live in Huyton what is so speacial about the Dingle i don't have a problem with were you live but some of you obviously do me eh?
He did seem slightly arrogant, but otherwise I think I understand where he's coming from. When Ross asked him what he missed about Liverpool and he said 'nothing' I think this is to be expected. When he left Liverpool around 40 yrs ago Liverpool was a declining and extremely poor city with what looked like no future so you can't really blame him for not missing anything. Now when he comes back Liverpool is the complete opposite and he himself admits he doesn't know much about Liverpool anymore and it has changed alot since he was last here, and lets not forget that the show isn't live and it is heavily edited. Plus there's always the possibility he was taking the p!ss:unibrow:
You forget that Ringo wrote "Octopuses Garden", fun song. People do come to Liverpool because of The Beatles it's true, the same as people go to Stratford because of Shakespeare and have been going there for hundreds of years and people will be coming to Liverpool because of The Beatles in hundreds of years time, it won't end. Sorry but I have never met anyone who has come to visit Liverpool because of Gerry and the Pacemakers or Frankie goes to Hollywood. If you can find a church choir that are better than The Beatles sign them up now.
All four members of the Beatles were as important as each other. Ringo was the right person for the job. If you listen to professional drummers talk about his style of playing, apparently he was technically brilliant. Take each member away from the Beatles and were they as good? Personally speaking, McCartney bores me. He's had some catchy tunes but I find them ho hum. Lennon too, some good tunes but a fair bit of dross . George Harrison, not a blistering guitarist but did some fine work (and some dross too). Ringo, just can't sing and I think he would be the first to admit it. Most of his songs have been a bit tongue in cheek although i thought "Photograph" was great. I saw Ringo speaing on Ross's show last night and he was being typically Beatle -esq quick witted and laddish, and that was all. He's always the same and his new song is bloody awful. But as he says in the lyric " Liverpool I never let you down"......and he didnt!
Check out the Ringo Starr all star band that came to Liverpool in Oct 92. He always puts on a good show. Here there are Todd Rundgren, Dave Edmunds, Timothy B Schmidt (Eagles) , Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren, Timmy somebody on percussion and sax from Tina Turners band, and a Canadian artist on keyboards called Burton Cummings, oh and Zac Starkey on drums .

i went to morrison, and we only ever sang when im 64 and with a little help from my friends(both ringo sung i hasten to add). besides that, ringo hasnt lived here for 40 odd years, the liverpool he knew has changed, so why would he miss it? hes getting unfair criticism here i feel. all the beatles left liverpool and never returned to live here, yet we rarely here complaints about lennon and harrison leaving. macca returns often too, thats why theres few complaints.
None of the other Beatles are using or did use Liverpool to promote themselves.
The Beatles are a class group that has left its mark, they will be around forever.
In our school Juniors and Seniors we sang Beatle songs in Music Lessons, it was great fun.
I have also noticed plenty of stay away Scousers ( soap stars and one hit wonders ) have been showing their faces up here. Would it be for Liverpool or for themselves? I wonder. Ringo has done himself no favours with some of his remarks.
Tommy Moore was the best Beatles Drummer, and George Harrison said that in front of Ringo. Who could argue with George :PDT11
Absolutely correct.. Harrison lived here in Hawaii.. died here too.. And so what? A person can grow up somewhere..( and Ringos' house was no paradise neighborhood at that time..) to put things in perspective..probably not leaving with many fond memories.. That is what I take from his answer..
People are reading into his comments.. Yes, the City is lovely now.. Yes, things have changed..Could he live peacefully there.. NOT with Tourist buses... LOL..
But, as for people leaving ( as many ex-pats do.) cause for reasons of their own..And never regretting to go back to a place (finding another paradise for themselves) has NOTHING to do with going back and enjoying it once in awhile..which he did ...
.. I think he was answering correct.. NO..he wouldn't come back there to live.. :rolleyes:Yes, he found a place of solitude.. and YES, he made a name for your city.. and NEVER let it down in that respect.. PEACE AND LOVE ... Wonder if you all (granted making a zillion) wouldn't move? hemmm ?????
Well, when I heard Ringo's comments my first reaction was to think it was tongue in cheek. That was my first thought.
heard some complaints today, and I thought that maybe my reaction has been naive - but reading the forum I see that one or two others have picked up on the tongue in cheek aspect of it.
Sometimes people don't get sarcasm and not everybody might 'get it'
I HOPE this is right. I don't want to have to be disapointed with one of our Beatles. :(
I am waiting to see if there will be any further comment from Ringo as I am sure Liverpool's displeasure will be made known to him.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt until further notice.
I am just downloading it, I will comment tomorrow. I have never seen Johnathon Ross so I will comment on him too. :PDT_Aliboronz_24:
Even if it was said in jest, it sends the wrong message out. Let's be honest about it, Ringo only came here to promote his new album. I've got nothing against him saying what he said but it is totally hypocritical. As for the Mancs having a go - Morrissey doesn't exactly live in Manchester now, does he?
Didn't John Lennon once say that if he could have been born anywhere, it would have been New York?
wish id watched it now-but i suppose he was just being honest-was he really that bad-if he did not have anyhting positive to say thats a shame-maybe it will be repeated then i can judge for myself because i will feel a bit let down and i dont come from liverpool but i do think you should be proud of where you come from .
.So what he wouldn't move back, neither would I if I had his money.
Anyone seen him without them sunglasses on?::ninja:
You past his old house on the way down to mine. I've met him many times and seen him without his sunglasses. Maybe he is just wearing them since he came back to Liverpool to hide his *black eyes.*
Only kidding, lol > I quite admire him. He's getting on in years and still rockin'.
Just read through these, and though I can understand some peoples negative reaction, I really think they are being unrealistic about Ringo,s role in 08! I mean for one thing, if he's only here to publicise his new album, surely he'd have the nouse to b******t endlessly about what a fab place Liverpool is,etc, and if he did, what would be the reaction to that???????? It's a catch 22 for him, and others to come(Beryl Bainbridge helping things along,Ithink!)Another point would be, who, given fame and fortune, would make a point of staying in thier birthplace because they felt they had to? Of course some would/do, but not many,(that i've ever heard of,anyway!)Also, while i'm at it,do we ever hear of other famous people being critiscised by their home towns/cities, or is this particularly peculiar to Liverpool?(I mean the Beatles weren't the first,or the last, I think:)
Well Mark you can say he only came here to promote his album, though I would say that titling the album Liverpool 08 is a great tribute to Liverpool in this special year as well as the part of Liverpool where he grew up. So was it exploitation or giving the city some extra exposure round the world. He could have just sat on his backside in California and lived off his riches. He didn't have to come back to Liverpool to perform, and to be alternately praised and knocked for what he has done or said. That's my opinion.
Chris
I just watched the show. Johnathon Ross I wouldn't want to watch again but I enjoyed all the guests. I didn't interpret anything Ringo said as insulting. I can understand why he lives alternately in the USA and Monaco, nice lifestyle. I have been in the USA since 1982 and have been back many times, I wouldn't go back to live there either. Not just Liverpool but anywhere in the UK. Some said he has an American drawl, he seemed no different to any time I've seen him before. Why gripe about stars living abroad, Spain,Portugal and Cyprus all have lots of Brits living there, just ordinary people who have done well for themselves
nobody complains about them.
ringos a t*t i seen him on jonathan ross aswell hes a b**end n he sed on the weekend he wanted to move bak n then sed on jonathan ross he jus sed da cos he ws excited he misses nttn bout lpool we shud b ashamed too call im a scouser hes a joke to liverpool n am ashamed da hes from here hes f*kin ****e neway worst beatle n worst scouser ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can be just as sarcastic as Ringo
in fact
im "this close" to wanting him to ever come back to Liverpool again.
You won't get much idea by just seeing one show, but Ross get's right on my nerves. He's been quite high profile on telly for a long time but he's a rubbish interviewer. he never asks any sensible questions or has any sensible conversation. All he ever does is crack smutty school boy jokes and he would be much more suited to a sixthformer locker room.
I've said this before about him, he just reminds me of a big soft lad.
If anyone is starring on his show don't expect any decent conversation - he doesn't ask anything worth listening to - he never asks any in depth or sensible questions - so the viewer doesn't learn anything. All he can do is crack daft comments and dirty jokes.
I noticed a long time ago that Ross is a bit pervy :disgust: It's like he's obsessed with smut.
to be honest i don't think anyone cares that he doesn't want to live in liverpool it is just the way that he answered the question, he could of just said something like"i wouldn't move back to liverpool as i have a great life elsewere alought i would always consider liverpool as my home" instead of "is there any thing that you miss about liverpool"
smug laugh
"er no"
as i said most people couldn't care less if he lived here, i would be gone if i had his money.
Hi Mark
Okay, I will agree that it was the wrong thing to say and that he should have thought about it before he said it. I do think though that Scousers are being overly sensitive about it. The answer is though candid and frank since he doesn't live in Liverpool any more. Also it is the type of often flip answers that the Beatles always gave in their heyday. But again I agree that once he was out of Liverpool and down in London it was the wrong answer.
Chris
Totally agree with you lindylou. I don't think much of him as an interviewer. Every time he has someone on he has to lower the tone with some sordid sexual remark. I'm not a prude (far from it:)) but he just has to say something sexual on every show. I also remember him being quite offensive to both David Schwimmer and Natalie Imbruglia. I don't watch him anymore - I just happened to catch the Ringo interview because my friend was watching it.
met george harrison ,and in his own words he would have called ross a midland banker, he's trying to belittle liverpool like so many other other jealous
non scousers. best to ignore him and not give him the hype that he has to thrive on, certainly didnt get where he is today on talent.
Beatles' Ringo is a falling Starr

Mersey bleat ... Ringo Starr
I KNOW it’s blasphemous to sl*g off a BEATLE.
But I wasn’t the only one who thought RINGO STARR was a bit of t*t on JONATHAN ROSS’s TV show on Friday.
As Ringo helped launch Liverpool’s Capital Of Culture year, you would have thought the drummer could have found something positive to say about the city.
But Surrey-based Ringo, who also has a flat in Chelsea, admitted he rarely returns to his home city and doesn’t miss a thing about it.
Then, when asked if he would move back there, he pulled a comedy face.
Radio phone-ins in the city received loads of complaints and there have been tirades against him on the internet.
One angry Scouser wrote: “I wonder how much we paid for him to appear. I bet there were some red faces.”
I’m also told Ringo had to MIME new single Liverpool 8 on GMTV last week.
When he took to the mic to rehearse, he discovered he was too croaky to pull it off and was persuaded to just mouth the words.
The decision caused chaos when producers realised no one had a copy of the track for him to mime to.
A GMTV source said: “There was a massive panic on. His voice was too croaky but he’s a perfectionist so it was decided it would make sense for him to mime.
“We had to download the single but struggled. Fortunately, we managed it just seconds before he was due to sing.”
I guess Ringo got by with a little help from his friends.

Ringo Starr: There’s nothing I miss in Liverpool
Jan 21 2008
by Richard Down, Liverpool Daily Post
DAYS after former Beatle Ringo Starr made a triumphant homecoming on the roof of St George’s Hall, he has been lambasted for flippant comments made about Liverpool on national television.
in ringo's defence does liverpool owe ringo something for putting the place on the map in the sad 60's before anyone knew where the place was before these guys rocked the world, or does liverpool own him and he should be at the beck and call of all liverpudlians to keep telling everyone it is a great place when it is obvious that it needs more than a CoC makeover, plus he's his own man, tell your average scouser that he shouldn't be wearing those jeans or that he talks a bit funny cos he left the place to make a better life for him and his kids and i'm sure he'll tell you to F off, even if he is a great drummer or a crap singer, get real, he belongs to nobody, where was tarby, gerry , and cilla, , think about it, sentimentalists do my head in. I love the place but thats my fault nobody elses.
I wouldn't say nobody knew where Liverpool was until the Beatles came around. It was known for its architecture and as a port on a world scale. Also the shipping companies of White Star and Cunard.
