@Ged, those houses on Fountains Road had a 'Sold' sign put up recently, so I expect something will happen to them.
That top 100 list has some of my favourite buildings. I prefer to see Liverpool as it really is, rather than some phoney tarted-up City just for the snooty-set and tourists. I'll take a few pics before they are covered-up.
Was passing this today, so took a piccy. The old Crown Pub
As usual pic is free to use for private collectors

Where's that Steve?
What school?
Alright, give me a clue.
I might do, ok yes i do:PDT11
Has anyone seen the 3 stuccoed georgian style houses next to Brougham terrace (are they actually THE Brougham terrace????) or know if the city council still own them? They are derelict with broken windows and part of the roof missing at the rear. As far as I was aware, they were part of the council buildings that include what was the Registary office and are still contained within the car park. If they are still owned by the city, how can they crtitcise or prosecute landlords when they do nothing about this. If they do not own the site, how can they ignore it being next to what I thought were still council offices?
Whatever the situation, they need adding to the Stop the Rot campaign
8, 9 & 10 are the 3 remaining houses of 11 that made Brougham Terrace.
Built about c1830 and designed by J A Picton.
Numbers 1 to 7 were replaced by the West Derby Public Offices, and number 11 by the Savoy cinema.
The whole block is still called Brougham Terrace.
Don't know if the former cinema is owned by the Council, but the others are. Perhaps number 8 is leased out.
Number 8 became the first mosque in the country in 1889, and it's planned to turn it into a museum.
On the news this morning it was said they have 2 years, and if nothing's done by then the Council will take number 8 back.
The half-wrecked building in Moss Street looked like it was being demolished today (a JCB was at the rear pulling back brickwork)
Grot Spots, they get everywere...
Westminster Rd former fire stn, police stn and pub...
You will also notice that the pub on the opposite
corner is also boarded up.....

Used to drink in the pub opposite, not been past for years and didn't realise it was shut.
The Pub, is this the one
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...veb_04/pub.jpg
The Old Bill - I didn't know it was closed  just shows how long it is since I've been down that way.
Went to that pub once or twice a long time ago.
Another entry for my," Grotspots", this should be Grotarea
Townsend lne by Lower Breck Rd
Years ago this used to be a great area, I remember what is nlow
the health club(closed) used to be an ice cream parlour.

This shot is on the corner of Toensend and Lower Breck.
The name was origionaly the Cockwell Inn, no seriously, but
they changed it for obvious reasons.

Yep, used to be Grand National along the road which has changed name i think then onto this one and then onto Anfield for the game.
Used to be a Belhaven owned pub and had a drinking corridor from the left hand door on that pic to a back room i think and the main public bar on the right hand side of the pic.
It was indeed Champion Sports, they used to have loads of
trainers, footy boots in the windows. Opposite side of the road
apart from Sayers and Lloyds chemist, used to be Jonses, they have
scaffold up now.
I can remember Vivos the small supermarket :)
The post office was on the same block - but it moved around the corner to Priory rd.
Do you remember Kehoe the cobblers ? (not sure how to spell the name).
everyone used to go to Mrs Jones with their ailments :)
Her son took over the chemist didn't he?
Champion Sports: I can remember it being a dress shop many moons ago - and a chandlers before then .. (not to be confused with the other chandlers a few doors away) .. ( I was only little at the time, but I remember looking at the dishes and pots & pans in the window). There was an off-Licence around the corner on Lower Breck we just used to call 'The Outdoor'.
I can remember all the shops on Breck rd & Townsend lane and also Priory rd. I could name most of them but I won't bore you all ! :unibrow:
Remember when the Willow Bank was known as 'Ma Pates?' - a bit before my time but my dad and grandmother used to call it that. :)
Yes I remember most of the shops, indeed Mrs Jones was the local
Doctor, yes her son took over.
I remember the shop on the corner of Winchester was Evans the
watchmaker, a little general shop, banks the butchers, a cycle cum
radio shop, the jewelers/pawnshop, the chandlers, Diamond cafe,
champion sports and as you say the offie round the corner. Pretty
much the only origional shop left is Longstaffes.
It is real eyesore area now, a real shame
Quote button not working again
Lindylou says: yes, I remember all of those. :)
.. and what about Anne Rowleys - we used to save up our pocket money in her Christams club. I always remember the smell of cigars when you went in -Anne's husband Charlie used to smoke them.
I noticed not so long ago, the old shop frontage was exposed showing the old name 'Anne Rowleys' - a sad reminder of better days.
Townsend lane used to be thriving and you could do your weeks shopping there without having to go up Breck rd. There was every shop you could want including a sewing machine shop (by Longstaffs) - I think they may have been a tailors too. There were fruit shops, grocers, butchers, newsagents, chandlers, and as you say even a watchmakers & clock shop ( was the family name Coffee ?) there was a cafe, and a dry cleaners (Sunray dry cleaning).
How sad to see that lane in it's current depressing state. The soul gone out of it, and what remains is half derelict. :(
PLANS to improve a retail park next to a key gateway into Liverpool have been submitted to planners. Read
Pics in there present state please.
Steveb those two photos of Townsend has really upset me. I didn,t realise it was so run down there now. I used to live up by Richmond Park, a wee bit further up towards town and still have friends and relatives in the area.
