This is the boating lake at New Brighton. It looks like it is gonna be a major building programme.

These were all taken through the fence. I had me litle mate with me, so didn't fancy climbing the fence.
This is the same site today. Taken from the bottom of where the pier was.

my old pic was published in the Echo on Sat 23rd January half a page with comment from me, found out when friends approached me and said saw your pic in the paper Joe.
Hello. have posted this link for the young at heart.
Enjoyed the funfair when young, and the dances on
a Saturday night when a teenager and beyond. Sad
day for New Brighton.

Spent a pleasant afternoon on the golden sands of New Brighton yesterday, nobody else there, the excavations must have put them off.I thought they were only using the lake area but it`s much bigger than that.Strolled along to Seacombe for the ferry to Liverpool then into the Midland for a pint of Theakstons, then home for my tea. It`s hard work being a pensioner these days.
I really do sympathise with you! but great photographs, many thanks.
Tony
I have to agree with you Gregs Dad! I don't know how I ever found time to go to work!!!!:PDT_Aliboronz_11:
I am extremely pleased to see that the redevelopment of New Brighton is beginning to - at last - gather momentum. All too often we've heard that 'work is due to start soon' only to then be told that things have been put on hold...
I have visited New Brighton on a couple of occasions this week and I've seen that the Marine Lake has been drained and that the site of the pool has been cleared. I will be visiting again over the weekend and I'll take my camera this time.
I have links here to two Facebook groups that are definitely worth looking at... one centres around photographs of old Liscard and the other looks at old New Brighton:
OLD LISCARD GROUP
OLD NEW BRIGHTON GROUP
I'm sure these will be of interest...
Nice one Ross. I'll have a better look at your sites when I have a bit more time.

HMS Hindustan Passing New Brighton Tower, August 1907
Photograph that appeared in the Liverpool Echo, March 6, 1968, along with the following letter to the editor in a section entited "My Yesterday" which was a series being published in the newspaper at the time:
Days of the Tower
MY MERSEY MEMORY is of a day in August 1907. The Lusitania had arrived from her builders, and ten units of the Channel Fleet, under Lord Charles Beresford, were anchored in the river. Here is one of them, H.M.S. Hindustan, passing New Brighton Tower.

New Brighton from the Tower Grounds today.
Well the bit of moss is still on the beach
One wonders why they took away the fairground resort? probably because the Pier had disappeared? people would have still trekked to new brighton if it was still the same resort today as it was then.
Its a day out and the area lost revenue when they closed it down.
Brilliant Joe and I used to love going crabbing down on those mossy sandstone outcrops. This is me in the mid 70s with a mate from Gerard Crescent.

Incidentally Joe, there's a new Echo glossy out called New Brighton with lots of old scenes that yours compliment greatly.

The shops, cinema, hotel compex in New Brighton is nearly finished. Took the wife to see it today, her opinion, "I won`t be visiting here anymore"
Yeah, it's taken the look of it for me. I'd rather have it on your arl pics and when the pier was there with the ghost train.
WOW!, what a change, for the worst I suspect. If I can find it I have
a pic of me, me mum and nan in New Brighton must be the mid 50,s
Donkey rides, candy floss, the amusement arcade, all gone, what a sheme
Hadn't New Brighton died a very slow death ?
No way was it ever gonna become a tourist attraction again so it's nice to see some sort of progress and facilities being built which I can imagine will be very useful to the townies :)
I agree with Smurf.
It's looking smarter judging by those photos. Will have to go over and have a look :)

Would love to see that pic Steve :) I remember your mum, nan and sister. My mum and nan knew them well too. :)
Yes i'll go and take a look but it'll never be the same again - probably because i've grown up - only a bit mind.
I loved New Brighton! Especially in the 50's, Reminds me of my earlier days, the Tower, the fairground, the Palace, and the Spanish Bar in the basement of the Grand Hotel on the waterfront! Great Days. and I always have to look at this old pic of my wife and I walking down from the Tower grounds, pic was taken by one of the 'pavement photographers. taken about 1954.
Great pic' Norm! How are things by you?I heard briefly, that there had been more tremors, and damage!
No 'shake's in Auckland Steve! Christchurch folk are getting a bit 'fed-up' with it though! It would make sense if they re-built the city in another location in my opinion! and get off that 'faultline!!!:PDT_Aliboronz_11:
