having had the dubvious pleasure of featuring in one of his Echo stories and in this tale I actually died therein, after havng been cursed by a gang of super satanists from Kenny (Kenny Regen?) he still hasnt given me some basic information regarding this far fetched tale, and I'

at first I want to say, that I'm a German pupil therefore my English won't be the best.

I've got one of the "Haunted Liverpool" books from Tom Slemen and I really liked reading it, but I'm not quite sure if all the stories say the truth. So I hope that someone can respond my question whether they're true or false.

And is it true that Tom Slemen reads out some of his stories on the radio. If so, when and on which radio station.

He's no longer on the radio as he was booted off the Pete Price show on Radio City. He's not at all happy about it either from what I understand. I believe there is a petition online to get him is own show; after a few weeks I think it was up to a mere forty-one signatures. Hardly a mandate. Hopefully, people are finally seeing through his tales and the surrounding nonsense. Many people I know are sick and tired of him - the endless promises to unveil the real Jack the Ripper in a yet-to-be-seen book don't help his credibility much either.

I've doubted lots of stories from Tom, however he wrote more about Spring Heeled Jack in his Haunted Liverpool 12 (I think).

While I've heard of the story already, he said that SHJ also visited Childwall too - and gave exact names of the Vicar who was there at the time, plus the organists name too - even I didn't know the Organists name back in 1880 until I did some research. Whether the story is true or not, it does show that Slemen does do a good amount of research in at least this story, something he would have had to have done to make it correct.

Thanks, Cadfael. This tells me that Mr. Slemen probably checked out contemporary news stories of the event which may have mentioned the vicar and organist at Childwall Church at that time.

It's very clever to research names of people who are no longer around to verify the story though. Who passed this story to Tom? It couldn't have been the Vicar or organist themselves. I've noticed that for more up to date stories, it's always a woman called Mary or a fella called Frank and thus the story can't be substantiated.

If Tom [Slemen] does join the forum I would like him to explain why his story The Valentine Ghost said to have occurred on the iron bridge in Sefton Park, featuring the lovers named William Robert D'Onston and Alice Harwood, appears to be a direct borrowing of the story of the Ripper suspect Robert D. Stephenson otherwise known as Roslyn D'Onston who related a very similar story that took place not in Sefton Park but in Hull.

Recently, at JtRForums, Hull researcher Mike Covell has been discussing the different versions of this story, often known as "The Lovers of Porthangwartha." It seems that the story goes back centuries and that if indeed Roslyn D'Onston contributed the story to W. T. Stead's Review of Reviews 1892, New Year's Extra Number, or else Stead contributed it himself, crediting it to the mysterious D'Onston, either man was just borrowing it from other sources, just as Mr. Slemen apparently did as well.

The trouble is, i've been at a couple of events that TS has also attended. People do come up to him with stories and whether these are quantified before publication, I don't know. How do you quantify something that nobody has any visual evidence of, only their word or even something they've heard second or third hand?

I have always said that I don't mind Slemen publishing stories that people tell him - researched or not, what I do take umbrage with is when he falsifies Liverpool's history and makes stuff up.

I have recently been doing a lot of research on 'William MacKenzie' and was myself checking Slemen's original published work in 'Haunted Liverpool 4'. He cannot even get the name of the guy right, he calls him 'James McKenzie'. It's things like this that I find unforgivable in his work.

The casebook guys asked him about the D'Onston story and he avoided the question by saying It's not relevant and that he's too busy to explain.
