Was anyone there at 10 when the veil was lowered by Lord Hulme and Warren Bradley??

The speeches were interesting, I was able to video them both...it may be of some use one day!

Interestingly, I watched Granada and NWT. I found that Granada was very much positive about the whole affair, but NWT was able to put a downer on things, they were far more pessimistic.

at least the weather stayed dry. everyone I saw in there was smiling or looking awestruck. I can't remember anything opening in the city in my lifetime that's had the buzz this has.

Great pics everyone. Overall it looks impressive. The fall on that flat bit of roof seems to be going the wrong way, hence the retention of water.

It said on Radio Merseyside that some of those trees are actually from the original Chavasse Park and we're uprooted during the building and re-planted a few weeks ago.

Yo! gets a 'mention' on the Liverpool One Wikipedia page.

Can't wait to have a look at it all on Saturday! Although I actually think the best bits will be in the St Peters Lane/ Hanover St areas. Ok, there's no Selfridges or Harvey Nichols (maybe Liverpool will eventually be able to pull them in), but it just seems unbelievable that they've managed to create almost half a city centre in 4 years! I think the Duke and Grosvenor have to be praised on their vision for this, and for seeing it though. They've made a massive loss on it after all.

Bristol is another city I have connections with, and it has been interesting watching their Broadmead development taking shape at the same time as L1. It's a smaller vision than L1 overall, but has quite similar ambitions (although I think they've gone for more of a mall that open streets). Check it out here.

looks nice enough. How it blends in with the area I don't know as I've never been to the centre of Bristol.

this line did make me smile though Over 200 new homes integrated into the development, including 24 affordable homes

so that makes 176 that are unaffordable?! :unibrow:

I guess most places are having to do this sort of thing now to keep up with neighbouring cities/towns that have done the same thing.

I'd like to see some more independent shops coming in though. the so called 'big' stores are fine in moderation but then every 'high street' starts looking very samey.

I'm surprised Selfridges didn't come in, but if JL and Debs took the biggest plots then they may have felt they'd got 2nd best.

but then what do I know. I'm not the brightest light in the box.

Bad architecture photowise If your looking to take an artistic shot but ok to walk through for shopping I guess.

Doesn't blend In with the old buildings very well.

Went through It today and bought a lunch, people In town walk very slow.

I walk fast too and when i'm in a rush and know exactly where i'm going and want to get in and out and have it done with, some people seem to be going so slow as to be going backwards - put there as an obstacle to get on my nerves.

However, in this case, with the occassion of the opening etc, it's better to give yourself time to look and take it in - not particularly to shop.

Or perhaps supply Litter Bins, which didn't seem to be much in evidence except one near the stage/steps.
Yes, I know any caring person would take their litter home if they can't find a bin.

Always been a fast walker In town, like to not spend too long around shops. A lot of people slow me down walking too slow, can understand elderly and disabled people moving slow but able bodied people should move more.

Guess one day I might try to make a good photo out of the place but I don't like most of the architecture.

Something I could help notice in these new fangled all singing and dancing malls in Manchester and Wigan recently, and now it seems here too - a lack of bins. :rolleyes:

I've been complaining about the complete non-existence of bins at PSI since they built it. :disgust:
They put them in the Queen Sq one so why they couldn't manage even a see through bag on a frame is beyond me.

Different and, in my opinion, so much better, Ged. There are concerns about right of way, but that is an angle to keep a beady eye on.

Greatr pics of the recent past ADW; I still remember the area like that...What a transformation! Some of me does miss the Liverpool of old. For example, the old Paradise Street Bus Station was a pleasure to use in my view. Used it during work experience at Merseytravel. Fond memories.

Well like my signature says these things take time. Does anyone remember this ? What happened to this awful scheme. This comes from the ''Liverpool city centre plan'' of 1965. Am so glad that this never got off the ground what we have now if far better.

That proposal sounds exactly the same as what we have now...but minus the concrete. It talks about escalators connecting with various streets, we have this now where South John Street is connected to Paradise Street ect. A further similar idea is the Arcade, although what has been built now is a slight twist on the concept.

That proposal might of made a better photo though.
