Lol, correct Joe. That's on my 5th pic down. They may have been officially opened on 15th April 1972 but I can assure you they were in use well before that - possibly unofficially :)

Tally man, ha, i'm not as old as you sir. I remember those games well and kick the can. Hiding behind the statues in St Johns gardens and in the sunken flowerbeds. They went on for hours and were sometimes carried over. The searches went right into town when you could walk through the precinct.
